Based on Texas Tech's solid record and, perhaps more tellingly, how well they've played tonight in Ames against a solid Iowa State team, I'm not nearly as confident that Saturday is going to be a "breathing room" game as I would've hoped when the schedule was first released.
Coming between OU and WVU, you'd like to get a little break, but they are a solid team and it will be in their house in Lubbock. Athletic, balanced, well-coached. Not an easy out. In fact, given how competitive so many of the "non-Tier-1" Big 12 teams are this year, we'll get very few easy outs this season. All the more so since we're the Big Bad Bully that every team and fan base pulls out all the stops for as their "Super Bowl" game(s).
PS: Don't let the final score tonight fool you. It was a close 2-point game with 1:30 to go before some plays went ISU's way and it got away from the Red Raiders.

This TTech game is a trap setup in many ways... First comes the big game, high emotion, lots of extra floor time, then a game against a perennial cellar dweller with another big matchup looming on the horizon with WVU. I trust TTech's success so far and this good showing in Ames will be sufficient to keep focus on the next game.
Frankly, it is good to see TTech having some success. Just don't want to see it come at the Jayhawk's expense.
I suppose they won't be handing out any meat necklaces at the gate Saturday...

Great point, and that's a major feather in our cap (to not have them sneak up on us, but to have shown enough already where Self will have our guys' attention). That said, we're still going to have to bring it in full force. I expect a win (indeed, feel like we really have to have wins like this one), but it might be a dogfight. I hope I'm wrong, and that we do enough to ultimately break their backs and then pull away with some ease. But it wouldn't surprise me if it's a bit tougher.
Saturday will be QUITE the day in my household, and for many who hold dual allegiances to the CHIEFS and Hawks. The Chiefs play in their wild-card game that afternoon, hoping to break a playoff win drought that extends all the way back to Joe Freaking Montana, followed by the Hawks in Lubbock that night. I'm hoping that a few cold ones (in celebration) will be in order around 7:30 EST and 11:00 EST!

Saturday will indeed be a big sports day. I'm with you regarding the Chiefs. Feel like they almost got a better draw with the wildcard on the road, but a division crown and home playoff game would have been pretty sweet after that horrendous start.
Not too concerned with TTech. Guys just need to take care of business like we know they can.

I am quite concerned about the TT game - at their house, after the incredible OU game and just before WVU - sounds like a trap to me.
Agree about the Chiefs better off with wildcard - they already beat Houston there once. If they take care of business and Cincy does too, then Chiefs get another shot at the Broncos (who they should have beaten twice already).
Hoping for a magnificent Saturday.

I'm no more worried about this game than I am about any other road game in the conference against a mid-pack team. That doesn't mean I'm NOT worried, but instead that I think ANY road game against all but 1 or 2 teams every season is fraught with risk.
Sure, we expect trouble at WVU, OU, ISU, and I'd even say KSU (even in a down year). So we certainly walk into those places with our guard up. However, I don't think "trap" game applies here. Maybe if we were playing at TCU, but is playing well enough that I think the guys expect it to be a tough game. I doubt any of them will be out partying Friday night thinking that Saturday will be a cakewalk.
Not to steal Asteroid's thunder, but Sagarin has us as about a 7 point favourite on Tech's court, which is (according to today's numbers) about what ISU would be favoured by vs. Tech in Ames. So we can expect a similar battle, and (if we take care of business) a similar outcome.
Some factors to consider:
>Tech hasn't beaten a ranked team this year. They lost to #16 Utah and #13 ISU. Their best wins were either vs. Richmond or Texas (both in Lubbock).
>They have 8 guys who play 10+ minutes per game. Very similar to KU in terms of the depth that they utilize.
>Despite the exhausting effort our guys put out Monday, they'll have had plenty of time to recover, and Tech is coming off a shorter rest and travel. Call "fatigue level" a wash in this case. I'd be more worried if we had had the OU game on Wednesday and had to recover by Saturday.
Anyway, YES it's a tough game, NO it's not a "trap" game because Tech is too good for our guys not to notice, and YES we should still win if we play at a decent level. There is some margin for error here, but not as much as there has been in the past, and I think HCBS and the players know it.

It will not be a 'trap game.' Those kinds of games are for teams without experience or perspective. This is a veteran team which demonstrated its character on Monday, and won't be traveling to a weaker opponent's home court to lose the advantage it gained on Monday in Allen. TT is not going to lay down for us, but we will win because of talent, maturity, experience and Self. And I'm beginning to believe that we have a couple of guys who simply won't let us lose, which we really haven't had for a few years.
