Rumour spreadin' 'round
In that Texas town
About the Jayhawks coming to play.
And you know what I'm talkin' about...
Just let me know
if you wanna go
to that arena for a...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!

Our Jayhawks (19-3, 8-1) host Jamie Dixon's Texas Christian Horned Frogs (13-9, 4-5). Game coverage begins at at 11 AM CT on ESPN. The smiling faced talking heads will be Rich Hollenberg doing play by play and Chris Spatola (who?) as the analyst.

From the KUAD Game Notes: Halfway through the 2020 Big 12 season, Kansas sits alone in second place at 8-1 in the league standings, one game behind Baylor (9-0). West Virginia (6-3) is in third, two games behind KU.

Bill Self is looking for Win #700. He would be the 31st person to hit the 700-win plateau at the Division I level and the eighth active head coach to do so.

He would trail only Bob Knight as the 2nd youngest coach to reach 700, and would become the 6th fastest to reach 700, putting him ahead of KU legendary coach Phog Allen in 7th place. (see the Game Notes below, and KUSports.com: KU’s Bill Self on the cusp of career win No. 700 )

KU has won it's last 7 games. TCU has lost 6 of its last 7, including earlier this week when it became the first Big 12 team to lose to OKS this season. All in all I think that bodes well for our boys in blue.

(And for those who have asked... There have been no sightings of the Village People in the Fort Worth/Dallas area. I repeat, there have been no sightings of The Village People in the area.)

ESPN.com Game Preview: #3 Kansas versus Texas Christian. ESPN's Basketball Power Index favors Kansas 84.9% to 15.1%, with an estimated 9-10 point winning margin.

What it is 'bout the ball team, ball team
Known as the Kansas Jayhawks?
To West Virginny they bring the fight
to those Mountaineers on another...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

6:00 PM CT on ESPN+ , our fun-loving birds of prey (aka the #3 KANSAS JAYHAWKS (20-3, 9-1)) attack the mountain cabin of Huggy Bear's WVU Mountaineers (18-5, 6-4). Game voices will be Marvelous Mark Neely on play-by-play and Fabulous Fran Fraschilla providing the analysis. In the past the Mountaineers have been ungracious to visitors to their domain (they are 5-0 at home so far this season, and Bill Self's Jayhawks are historically 2-5 there, 13-5 overall), but once again our Boys in Blue look to return home with more than an "L" and a "Thanks! Please come again!" from their hosts.

KANSAS still trails Baylor by 1 (that blasted game in The Phog! Grrrr...), and need the hard-to-come-by Morgantown win to keep pace after the Bears made short work of the sorry tu shorthorns of Shaka Smart(?) on ESPN Big Monday.

The ESPN pregame matchup prediction favors WVU (booooo!) to win at home 51 to 49%. Essentially a toss-up, the Jayhaks need to protect the ball and win the majority of the 50-50 hustle plays in order to survive the mystery that is the Mountaineers in Morgantown. WVU is 5-0 at home, but just 1-4 on the road in conference, so yeah, just how many points is their home field advantage worth? And with KU being 5-0 on the road, well, someone is gonna lose a goose egg Wednesday night!

The fun stuff (sources as noted)...

Ohhhklahoma's here on Saturday,
Dreeeeeams of winning fill their heads, they say.
Heeeere's hoping when they go away
It'll be with an "L" from another Phog Allen...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!

Bill Self's Jayhawks (21-3, 10-1) host old foe Lon Kruger's Oklahoma Sooners (16-8, 6-5). Game coverage begins at 11 AM CT on ESPN. The smiling faced talking heads will be Jason Benetti (play-by-play) and Fran Fraschilla (analyst).

KU has won it's last 9 games, keeping pace 1 game behind the undefeated in Big 12 play Bears. OU has won it's last 2, and 3 of it's last 4, but is still an abysmal 1-4 on the road in conference play as they sojourn to the Phog.

Iowa state, Iowa state,
The corn grows tall, the State Fair's great!
Now ISU aims to work on a blight,
(their record in the Phog) on a Monday...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

8:00 PM CT on ESPN, our surrrrggging KANSAS JAYHAWKS (22-3, 11-1)) are hoping to garner win #800 all-time in The Phog as they host Steve Prohms' (for how long, one wonders?) ISU Cyclones (11-14, 4-8 ). Game voices will be Bob Wischusen on play-by-play, Fastidious Fran Fraschilla providing the analysis, and our beloved Holly Rowe roaming the sidelines as our reporter.

Of special note, KU's own Marcus Morris will have his #22 jersey lofted to the rafters on Monday night.

KANSAS still trails Baylor by 1 (you know why! Kee-eeeee-arr...), and needs to defend The Phog to keep pace... or maybe catch up if the Sooners can beat the Bears in Norman on Tuesday? We can always hope for a little help, right? KANSAS would love to go into Saturday's game in Waco tied for the lead instead of still behind.

Yeah, I”m not betting on it, either. The Bears are for real this season.

The ESPN pregame matchup prediction favors KU to win at home 94.6% to 5.4%, with the spread at 16! ISU is 4-2 at home, but as we have seen so often in the past they are again not road warriors, sporting an 0-6 away record. And the Cyclones are missing star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who is out for the rest of this season with a broken wrist.

That all bodes very, very well for a KU win, but we cannot forget that ISU is almost always a pesky opponent, regardless of venue. In fact, ISU (2-14 in AFH) and Oklahoma State (2-10 in The Phog) are the only two conference opponents that have won more than one game against Self's Jayhawks in the hallowed halls of Allen Fieldhouse. And even without Haliburton, ISU is coming off it's best game in months, drubbing the hapless and short-handed shorthorns -- who played without starters Jericho Sims (back) and Jase Febres (knee) -- on Saturday. Still, all things considered, this year it looks like for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons, ISU will be lost in The Phog again.

Lions and tigers and BEARS!
Oh my!
Lions and tigers and BEARS you say?
Jayhawks in Waco for another...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!

Bill Self's Jayhawks (23-3, 12-1) travel down to that ol' Texas town of wacko Waco to try to carve another L on Scott Drew's Baylor Bears record (currently 24-1, 13-0 atop the Bigi 12... but you knew that!). Game coverage begins at 11 AM CT on ESPN. The smiling faced talking heads will be Dancin' Dan Shulman (play-by-play), Jammin' Jay Bilas (analyst).and the every popular Holly Rowe reporting from courtside!

Baylor wins and the Big 12 title for this season is almost a lock to be theirs.
KANSAS wins and the two teams are tied for first, each with 4 games to go inthe Big 12 regular season.

Baylor hosts KSU, goes to TCU, hosts Tech and then finishes in Morgantown.
KANSAS host OKS on Monday, goes to KSU, hosts TCU on CBS (SENIOR GAME) and finishes at Tech.

No pressure.

The 'Boys are back in town!
(The 'Boys are back in town)
The 'Boys are back in tow-ow-ow-ow-own!
The 'Boys are back -- for another ESPN Big Monday...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!

8:00 PM CT on ESPN, our KANSAS JAYHAWKS (24-3, 13-1, tied for 1st with Baylor) will be working for the season sweep of Mike Boynton's "new life but too little too late this season" OKS Cowboys (14-13, 4-10 ). Game voices will be Bad Boy Bob Wischusen on play-by-play, Frabjous Fran Fraschilla providing the analysis, and America's college hoops honey, the beloved Holly Rowe roaming the sidelines as our reporter.

KANSAS did the deed and caught up with Baylor on Saturday. Now the Jayhawks need to keep the pedal to the metal and finish the season strong to wrap up Bill Self's 15th title in 17 years and the Jayhawks' 19th Big 12 conference title in 24 years of conference play. Although a little help is always appreciated, it does not seem that many other teams will be able to beat Baylor in their 4 remaining games (KSU tomorrow in Waco, @TCU on Saturday, hosting Tech next Monday, then closing their season in Morgantown). Meanwhile KU hosts OKS, travels to KSU on Saturday, hosts TCU for this year's Senior Game and then close out their season on the road at Tech. All things considered, the remaining schedule leans in Baylor's favor. Jayhawks gonna have to win 'em all. It's like nuking from orbit -- only way to be sure.

The ESPN pregame matchup prediction favors KU to win at home 94.3% to 5.7%, with the spread at 15.5. OKS has won 3 of its last four, but still stuggles on the road, where they are 1-6 in Big 12 play, to include their latest loss in Morgantown.

But we cannot forget this is still OKS, and there is always the lurking Curse of the Coach's Alma Mater.

A quick aside - this is the last pregame post I'll be doing until the NCAA Tournament.

Mrs. HE and I are flying the aerie later this week for sunnier, warmer climes over the next few weeks, and access to the internet will not be one of my big concerns, all things considered. And no worries (that's a clue, y'all), Mrs. HE's momma and Auntie will be holding down the fort and keeping the dogs at bay - or at least well fed and watered - (with a little help from other family members such as Mrs HE's sister and BiL as needed) while we are gone.

We'll be checking the news as we can, but 17 and 19 hour time differences mean we will almost certainly be otherwise occupied when our Jayhawks are trying to bring home another crown. But we know y'all will be doing your bit to cheer them on, and we hope to come home to another KANSAS Big 12 regular season title and tournament title, and our Crimson & Blue Boys ready to kick a** and take names in the Big T!

I'll be back for the post game stuff Monday night (all good, fingers crossed!), and after that, who knows?

You folks take care, and we'll try to do the same! Until then, g'day. mates and

KU beats Tech to earn sole possession of the 2020 Big 12 regular season title with a blistering 17-1 conference record and a 16 game winning streak. Got to win 9 more, Jayhawks!

15th Big 12 title in 17 seasons under Bill Self. Absolutely amazing. Mind boggling.
