“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
On the ESPN box score site, there's a link for game-related videos. The first two are all about the "brewing controversy" surrounding this play. It "features" (and I use that term loosely) the recruiting goofball Jeff Goodman telling Scott Van Patton (a good anchorman and someone who really admires AFH) that Frank not only didn't give him the "required" three feet, but he didn't give him three inches. Goodman goes on to say that Mason fouled Hield on the hand, and then says, rolling his eyes, something to the effect of the calls being made in KU's favor at AFH. He clearly implies that KU got home cooking and that's why we won the game.
WHAT A TOOL! And talk about a media machine trying to make something out of nothing. Like I said before, the OU players and coach didn't protest, so why is the media making it out to be a bigger deal than it was? Why must they take away from such a phenomenal insta-classic bout? And if they're going to point out bad or questionable officiating in that game, for goodness sake be objective about it and bring up all the lousy calls that went OU's way!!! The "ref-suck" was very much distributed the other way, as we all saw and know...probably too much, in my view (KU really took it in the shorts on several occasions).

"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot
Kudos to Dave for looking up the actual rule. Prompted me to download the rulebook and look into it myself. Guess what? Dave's right (we knew this). There is no 3 foot rule pertaining to a defender's distance from the inbounder.
Anyway, it's all noise. If anybody had a legitimate gripe, I'm sure that Kruger or somebody from OU would be complaining. They're not. They're showing class. While I'll never let OU off the hook for the Billy Tubbs years, I really feel that everyone involved last night (players and coaches) knew that everyone gave it their all, and that KU (finally) had the chips fall in their favor. They also know that it could have just as gone in OU's favor. Two heavyweights going 12 rounds toe to toe, and we got the decision. I think everyone can live with it, and it only seems to be outsiders (fans and "paid fans" disguised as media types) who want to create controversy where there is none, rather than thanking both teams for 55 minutes of outstanding basketball and entertainment.
In other news, I tuned into the UK/LSU game for a split second and saw a UK guy take a cheap shot at Ben Simmons who then responded and got called for a foul. I'm sure that the guys weren't all lovey-dovey with OU last night (double T on Selden and the OU guy), but overall nobody seemed to be getting chippy or obnoxious.
