... after all.

Both teams exhausted, but no subs for us.

Hmmm...

I do not think it is that they are not good it was more the match ups and though OU was on fire we were hanging in there and HCBS does not like to sub when the team is playing well.

Not sure I agree with the strategy but I will gladly take the W. Someone will have to go a long way in explaining to me how Hunter starts the game and can't sniff the floor in anyone of the OTs. Sure, Lucas came up with some good rebounds but I bet Perry gets an assist in OT instead of an almost TO because Lucas cant hit the bunny. Hunter is also a better shot blocker. But hey we won right?

Wonder who the other 10 coaches were that voted KU #1?

Gurley brought up that, even though they were rested, they would be cold.

the rotating bigs combined for 15 points and 16 boards. not bad.

this was a game where you need to play the toughest guys. Selden, Mason, Graham are tough guys, Perry is some times, and Jamari and Lucas are our toughest bigs. Jamari had a couple of key big-time-no-regard-for-his-body blocks that are not in Hunter's repertoire and Lucas did score 5 straight points in OT.

I remember when we hated playing Bill Self's tough, mean guys at Illinois. KU needs to be that tough and most of the guys were.

I will take a dry iced, frozen, hypothermic Hunter Mickelson over a Heat Mizer warmed up Lucas every day and twice on Big Mondays. Not sure what HCBS's bromance with Landen is based on but until Hunter shows me he isn't the player I saw in Korea, Lucas is much further down my bench than HCBS's. Just me though.

Spangler was having quite the game in the early going, when Mickelson was in. (And the eye test suggests that Spangler was faster up the court) Then Spangler all but disappeared as an offensive threat in the second half (when Traylor and Lucas were on him), save for one three that I recall.

I suspect that combined performance is what fueled the decision to go with Lucas and Jamari, but I would be interested to hear Self's answer.

Agreed on the Spangster. He was hobbled to say the least though in the second half and all 3 OTs. Dont think his performance was affected at all by Lucas. Also not sure 9 game time minutes is enough to determine Hunter's usefulness. Would be nice to hear the coach's thunking on it.
