The Floor Is Yours: Welcome to the year of the senior

Whenever Ellis spots Kansas freshman Cheick Diallo with his head down after he makes a mistake, the senior counsels him. Ellis has been there. He knows the difficulties young bigs often encounter as they transition from high school to top-tier college basketball.

"Sometimes he gets down on himself, which I did as a freshman too, and I tell him I've been through that," Ellis said. "But you really have to keep on going when something does not go right."

There are different types of leaders, and while Perry has taken some criticism for not being a dynamic leader, this account shows that Mr. Ellis IS a leader, but just in a quieter, individual way.

I've had to remind myself that Perry is a very good player and a credit to the team, regardless of his laid-back mannerisms. He quietly goes about the business of scoring in double figures and getting, or at least being close to, double-doubles as he adds rebounding to his repertoire. (And let us not forget that he took a charge in the Montana game! He may not be as soft as some of us thought!)
