Ah, yes, the memories:
Manning certainly is highly familiar with the opponent. The star player who led Kansas to the 1988 national title was the target of barbs and taunts whenever the Jayhawks visited the Wildcats.
"One of my first games at K-State, that's a very heated rivalry, they were throwing live chickens at us," Manning said. "I remember going in there and ducking some live chickens, also some not-so-live ones out of a KFC bucket or whatever."
That was obviously a good year. One for the ages, in fact.
I'm sure most on here remember the full season, including the fact that the Purps (with a superstar Mitch Richmond at the helm) beat us at Allen that year...only to have Danny and the Miracles exact sweet revenge with a 71-58 win over the Purps during the Hawks' 6-game run in the tourney.
Without doing a search, can each of you RCBers name the other 2 teams that KU vanquished during that NC title run who had beaten us at Allen earlier in the season?
PS: I still have a t-shirt with the scores of the losses on the front, contrasted by the NC tourney win scores on the back. The caption at the top of front and back is:
DON'T BEAT US AT HOME...
PAYBACKS ARE A BITCH!
This fan will be pulling big-time for the Fighting Sir Dannys tonight! Go get 'em, Danny--spread your wings!

That's probably the easiest one of the three, followed by KSU, since both were Big 8 teams...and most folks know that OU was the "dominant force" in the regular Big 8 season that year, only to be upset by that masterful KU performance at Kemper.

So that leaves Duke, Vandy, Murray St. and Xavier. Hmmm...

Great memory recall, LKF_Hawk!
I'll post the t-shirt image tomorrow, if time allows.

And tomorrow, I will be offering up my usual "no HW for 2 nights if KU wins the championship" yearly deal. I show my fifth graders the Jayhawk logo and tell them to root for that team. I like manufacturing artificial fandom

"Hi Portnoy! I watched the game yesterday; THE JAYHAWKS WON BY A LONG SHOT! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE GAME ON SUNDAY!"
That's exactly the kind of enthusiasm I was going for!
