Below is my player rating for all players through 12 games. Clearly Frank Mason III is the runaway MVP to this point and it isn't even close. If you put confidence in this rating you are a wee little bit alarmed that Udoka is out since he is one of 5 that has "starter effectiveness". What I mean by that is a starter should have a rating per minute above 0.6. Your key reserves need to be above 0.5. Below 0.5 is starting to be marginally effective. You can see this holds up for the top 8 players. Lightfoot and Vick have not been overall as effective as you would like to this point. Now I realize no player rating is perfect and the only rating that has absolute meaning is the rating Coach Self gives. I have watched Vick play and I am very encouraged by his play and I my eye test says he is better than marginal. But the numbers say he is marginally less effective than Svi and that is likely why Svi has taken his place in the starting lineup. Last season Traylor had a rating per minute of around 0.40 or so. So both Lightfoot and Vick are rated better than Traylor last seaosn and Traylor got a ton of minutes. Mason leads in both total rating and rating effectiveness. Jackson, however, is having a very effective season. He is already at 0.84 per minute and if Self thinks he is going to get better that is scary good for a freshman. The second table down shows the ratings for all players for the last 4 seasons. You can see Frank's current rating is the best of any player. Frank is having a helluva season thus far. Jackson's rating is 3rd to Franks's and Embiid's in 2014. Heck, Carlton's current rating is 4th overall over the last 4 years. Landen had a 0.68 last season but has been far less effective this season. If he can continue to get back to form he will be an effective starter. This team has some work to do to continue to improve but the numbers provide optimism. If Landen can get back up above 0.6 and Vick can get up to the 0.55 or so and everyone else stays more or less where they are, we will have a helluva season.
