No one would dispute that Frank Mason III is the key to this team through three games. But if you look at the +/- it gives insight into another player that has been very key. Carlton Bragg's +/- is simply obscene. He leads the team in both offensive and defensive +/-. All of the players are huddled around 2.1 points per minute for offense with the exception of 2. Bragg is about 10% better at 2.3 and Azubuike is a little more than 10% worse at 1.87. The back court is pretty interchangeable so whoever is in we perform pretty well. But there is thus far a big drop off in offense when Bragg is off the floor replaced by Azubuike. On defense the numbers are little more spread out. KU has a defensive +/- of 1.94 meaning opponents score 1.94 points per minute. Bragg by a large margin has the best defensive +/- at 1.53. That means the Jayhawks are on average, 20% better when Bragg is on the floor. Azubuike has the 2nd best defensive +/- at 1.80. Jackson has a team worst defensive +/- of 2.13. Jackson also has the dubious distinction of being the only Jayhawk that hs been outscored when he was on the floor. With Jackson in the game the Jayhawks have been outscored by 5 points or 0.07 points per minute. On the other side of the ledger, the Jayhawks outscore their opponent by 0.771 with Bragg in the game. The +/- does not tell the whole story but the numbers indicate strongly that Jackson has not lifted this team much and that Bragg has been the most effective player. The most effective team on the floor thus far this season is Bragg, Mason, Graham, Vick and Svi. Mason, Graham and Vick all have similar +/-/min numbers in the 0.13 range.
