Terrance Ferguson, the #14 player in the 2016 Rivals 150 and top signee for Sean Miller and the Wildcats, will play Down Under instead of in Tucson next year. In the linked article below he provides a well thought through and well written explanation of why he chose playing overseas for a year rather than play in college. Ferguson also cites talking with Emmanuel Mudiay (7th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft), who chose to play in China for a year instead of for Larry Brown at SMU, as being influential in his decision making process.
Personally I would like to see more OAD players that are not really interested in college go this route. Living in another country can be an educational experience in and of itself, and they get paid much more than the chintzy salaries offered by the D-League.
Also, unlike Mudiay (Congo), Ferguson is a US kid choosing to play Oseas instead of in school for his first year out of high school. If he does well, he may just be the start of a small but significant trend
I wish the young man luck as he pursues his dream.
