ESPN lists 9 of the 10 refs for the FF. Roger Ayers, Mike Eades, Tom Eades, Mark Whitehead, Jeff Clark, Brian Dorsey, John Higgins, Tony Padilla, & Michael Stevens. According to Jeff Goodman, the 10th name is a mystery. Jeff Clark was one of the KU-Nova officials and resides in Philly. Hope OU doesn't get him.

Speaking of referees, does the name Freeman Johns ring a bell?

It didn't, but I see he was a Big 12 side judge who was on the first CFP crew? What else say you?

Jeff Clark was one of the KU-Nova officials and resides in Philly.

He is also, as it turns out, the guy who whistled Devonte for 4 of his 5 fouls. I ask the Board two simple questions:

* How often have you seen Devonte foul out in his KU career?

* If one of the refs in this Elite 8 game were from Douglas County (the equivalent of Cheltenham, PA--north Philly), and he called 4 fouls that led to Ryan Arcidiacono fouling out of that pivotal game, do you not think it would be covered ad nauseum by the media?

The more I think about this game, and the way it was called like a street fight in Morgantown (yet with KU getting whistled for touch and phantom fouls while we got hacked to death), the more I feel it STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN.

PS: A source on the web says that former Coach Steve Lappas weighed in on CBS radio as saying he should never have been allowed to call the KU-Nova game.

Why does this kind of crap only seem to happen to KU?

I know officiating was just one factor in the game, but it's inarguable that it played an important role.

And the NCAA morons don't seem to care, since he's one of the 10 for FF games.

Tweet from a Nova fan from Philly late in the KU-Nova game:

Apparently tweeted with glee. (Note: Narberth is just on the outskirts of Philly...)

Hell of a job, NCAA. Hell of a job.

Coincidence? I think not.
I know, I know, I see biased refs, even refs on the take, everywhere... but what if???
That guy should not have been working that game.

Thanks for nothing, guys. Ignorance may not be bliss, but I was getting better...

Wow. I seriously can't believe that a Philly guy reffed any game with a Philly team. Can the NCAA do anything competently?

Does the NCAA have a policy about refs calling games in the tournament involving teams from the leagues where they worked? That article from 2000 said he was working Atlantic 10 and Big East. Is he still a Big East ref?

One can argue about Graham's 5th foul, but I though at least 2 of the other fouls were bogus. Now I'm tempted to watch the game again on DVR (and endure the pain) and check out each call on Graham. I saw at least one call in the game where I thought a ref made a call even though it appeared another player was totally blocking his view of the play, but I can't remember who was involved.

Did Clark also call the charge on Ellis early on? That was probably a good call, but can you imagine that IF Clark wanted to help Villanova and he sees very early on that Ellis and Selden are having off nights. So with that in mind, he knows that he only has to mess up either Mason or Graham and KU would have little chance.

Mongo just pawn in game of life.

For NCAA tournament games at the very least, the NCAA should have a referee screening process like our court system has for juror selection. Head coaches should be allowed to decline at least one ref each game, and with both HCs agreeing, select a replacement from a standing referee pool. The NCAA makes millions off the NCAAT, the cost would be minimal in comparison.
