Self named National Coach of the Year by peers

I'm not sure if it's a mashup or not HE. When Konza mentioned the 53 season it got me thinking that my wife's uncle played around that time. So just googled his name...good ole google. And that's what I found. I'm sure it could be.

Gosh, Wheaty, Dr. Clark Bricker. There is a blast from the past. One of the best college professors I had. Somehow he took a class of a hundred or more and made it feel smaller. IIRC, he won the Hope Award numerous times. Perhaps the most beloved professor on campus in those mid-70's years. Good old Hoch auditorium. I saw Lynard Skynard in that place. Loudest concert I ever attended. Thanks for bringing back those great memories.

Congrats to Coach Self. Curious as to when they vote on this award--obviously making it to the NC isn't the criteria. Did a little research and, if I did the math correctly (no guarantee there!), I don't think the stats are that awful if you factor in time coaching, etc. At this point Self has 12% to the FF and 6% NC (I only started each coach when they were at a major school--e.g. for Self that would be IL and for K it was Duke, though he coached Army for several years prior). Williams, coaching around 12 more years, has 23% FF and 7% NC's and, as we know, it took him 14 years to win the first one. Even K, in 34 years of Duke, has about a 15% NC average (though he does have a 35% FF average)--but also several flameouts prior to the FF as a #1 seed. Am i disappointed we didn't make it all the way--of course. Do I think we have a problem getting over the EE hump many years--yes or so it seems. But the reality is that lots of "elite" teams aren't going all the way every year and quite a few flame outs early in the tournament as well. And of the coaches I looked at (which also included Pitino, Squid, and Izzo), I can't say that I'd want any of them over Self regardless of post season wins. On to next year (and it's a luxury for us to always know that we'll be in the tournament each year--knock wood). ROCK CHALK!!
