“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
It's tough to see him go, but after three years at KU and the prospect of moving up to the League, we really can't blame the young man to go for it.
He was up and down at times, but he stepped up big on numerous occasions this year. Alas, his threes didn't fall against Nova, which was one of several reasons we didn't go farther in his final campaign, but I'll choose to remember the great times he contributed to. To include the monster game against UK (which we would've lost--at home, no less--without him), the highlight-reel dunks, the discovery of a stronger paint penetration game...and the treat of his tagalong, Uncle Anthony.
Godspeed, Wayne. Represent yourself and your Jayhawk pride well in the League!
Once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk.

he pretty much had a Gooden last game, but...he represented KU well, and as you rightly said, provided a bunch of highlights this year. His game against Kentucky was very special. Wish Wayne nothing but the best.

I enjoyed watching him and wish him the best.
He absolutely had to go though. I believe he has reached his ceiling as far as developing as a college player (frankly he reached it sometime last year). Playing a final year may have improved his stock somewhat, but I do not believe he ever would have been close to a lottery pick. He has some degree of "potential" still to be harnessed, but another year like his junior year, without amazing improvement, could really hurt him.
He needs to find his niche in the NBA, D-league or Europe (where I think he will end up), and see if he can progress and build consistency at the next level.
Rock Chalk Wayne!

I agree with you 100%, AZ. If he had a good chance a taking it up another notch (as. e.g., Buddy Hield did from his junior to senior year), I would be fervently hoping that he changes his mind about hiring an agent to keep his options open. But like you, I don't see that happening, so now is the time to go.
Thanks for all the wonderful fun, Wayne! You carry the best wishes of your fellow Jayhawks and KU fans everywhere with you!

I find is a little odd timing wise. Odd in a good way for us. I read that Josh Jackson is going to commit in the next week or so. It seems very coincidental that Selden declares AND is getting an agent letting everyone know he won't return to KS and Jackson is committing somewhere in the next week.
I like what he had to say about KU.

I would have LOVED to have Selden back and honestly thought there was a good chance he would return. Alas he's not so best of luck.

Who knows though...it's a bit confusing. Seems like he really likes Arizona but he did give the love to KU as well...

I think that Selden leaving may be just what KU needed for Josh to choose Self & Co over Miller. The kid really does like Miller, but he seems to like Self as well, so... nothing to do but wait and see.

He talks Jackson and also how he spoke with Perry about KU during his recruitment.
