It struck me last night that I had never heard of any Villanova player in any NBA draft discussions. None. And I checked. Not a single Villanova player is projected in this year's draft. We have 3, although one never played. There is a theory that 'talent' is essential for a team to win it all, but clearly this is not always the case. We had more 'talent' than Villanova, but unfortunately, we also had more 'nerves,' and that reduced the 'talent' to a much less imposing obstacle. I re-watched the first half and we were as tight as I've ever seen us. And Self made no effort to change our approach making our stress even more telling. I actually dreamed about Perry moving out to the perimeter and changing the entire dynamic, once it became clear that the refs were going to let interior 'fouls' go, and that Perry simply couldn't get the ball and score.
And as someone pointed out, Perry and Wayne lost a of money last night. A shame.
