The national media, as expected, KU March underachievement. HCBS 9 times has lost as higher seed short of FF. It is a unfortunate reality of today's game, the tournament is what counts.

We lost to the team rated higher than us in Ken Pomeroy's computer rankings and were on the end of several questionable calls. The way that game was called was pathetic for an Elite 8 game. Devonte should have been going to the line instead of fouling out. The National media can shove it.
Check out Ken Pom and see who is left playing and where they are ranked.

I realize that in the current news bite world the only thing that matters to most of the media is March. I will also admit that we have lost to lower seeded teams more than others. I think the biggest factor in that is we are higher seeded than the actual talent level more often than not. I find it interesting that basically we get the bad rap because we have found ways to win during the season. It is a perverse perspective that is continually maintained by the media. I do not doubt that HCBS is trying to figure out what the reason for the losses in the EE and I think they hurt him way more than they hurt any of us. Hopefully we will have another good year next year.

My apologies, LKF. I deleted my initial reply to your post as it was too harsh. I still stand behind the concept underpinning what I wrote, but not by how I stated my thoughts on it.

HE, no worries, I always appreciate your insightful posts. I am sorry I hit a nerve, I did not mean to post the article as a "finger in our collective eye". When something like this is written about our beloved Jayhawks it makes me sad for HCBS, players and staff as it belittles the extreme effort they put in. I apologize if my posts seem overly negative, I have high expectations of KU every year, a product of the amazing program, and when the season ends like last night it hurts, but my hurt is that Perry, Jamari, et. al who played their guts out all season came up short and I feel just heartbroken for them. HCBS is a great teacher, and leader, like all he will continue to evaluate and make improvements, I just don't understand his "rotten" luck in the tourney.

Hairy,
I think you make an excellent point about KU often being over ranked. But...it is what it is. Sadly, there is a long trail of disappointing tournament losses that often lead us to scratch our heads. And I hear it all the time from friends who aren't KU fans, so it's not just the national media. This one stings, but I don't put it in the same category as several of the others. I actually think this team overachieved this year, and they deserve great credit for that. Self obviously puts great store in the regular season. His record is other worldly there everywhere he has been, but maybe, just maybe that can negatively impact March. Don't know. Too bad they went out like this.

I wholeheartedly echo your sentiments here, LKF. And thanks for being understanding.

I will probably make a few more posts before I sign off for the year but pardon me if I echo your exact sentiments in everyone of them. I am sure I will find ways to say it more ineffectively but your feelings are exactly how I feel.
