“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
This hurts:
"Another Kansas team among the best in the country, watching college basketball’s biggest games from home."

KU has such a proud, historical program, and yet we've encountered so many speed bumps over the years to impede what should've been far greater program glory.
Sometimes I feel like KU is cursed in the tourney, and I harken back to multiple decades and teams on that score.
From '86 to '97, '02, '03, '10, '11, and now '16, I'm SO sick of saying "But we had the best team that year!" when it matters little to anyone outside of the Flock. That's just a tree falling in a vast forest to everyone else...
I need a wall to head-butt...
PS: my sorrow and angst encompasses the full sweep of KU post-season performances. Only 3 NCs just baffles me...what did we do to so thoroughly piss off the basketball gods?

RKCKJHK!!!
What is really strange is the success of other programs in recent years. I mean recent like since HCBS has taken over. No it wasn’t any better under Roy, but that ship has sailed. But in just the last thirteen years UCONN has won three NCs. Puke, UNC and Florida, yes I said Florida have all won two. So what does that mean? Are we only 33% as good as UCONN the last thirteen years? Half as good as Puke, UNC and FL? While it may seem “no one outside the flock” cares, they might not care, but the college basketball world does notice. Also, some of us "in the flock" do value the conference champ streak but we would also like to see some more success in the last 6 game tourney of the year. Its just tough for me and I think a lot of KU fans to believe with all the talent we have had that we only have 1 NC and blankety blank UCONN has 3!!!

I meant that no one outside the Flock cares about our take that we were the best team in year A, B, C...X, Y, or Z. To them, it's just KU fans making excuses and playing woulda, coulda, shoulda.
I couldn't agree more with you about the UConn and Florida examples. It's very tough to swallow, particularly when framed alongside our many blown opportunities over the decades.
