Keys to the game

I think one of the keys to tonight's game was the 3/4 court press by nova. This press really slowed us down. We did not execute many of our sets we normally run. I think this was due to us rushing once we finally did get the ball up the court.
We still had many good shots, but most did not come from running good offense. Perry didn't play well, but he didn't exactly get many touches either.
The big 12 prepared us for many styles, but I do not recall us seeing a press designed to slow us down and contain the ball. We saw presses that tried to turn us over, but not slow us down.
Just my thoughts on a nice strategy by Nova.

Season's over - KU, aside from FTs, outshot Nova and yet end up going home. NCAAT is a cruel, cruel beast.

Agreed on the quasi-press. They also really mixed up the zone/man D. For as good as this team could be on ocassion a simple 2-3 zone somtimes made them very pedestrian. Tonight the inability to shoot them out of that zone was a huge factor for me.

Right, so does this mean HCBS got out-coached?

I don't think we were out coached. Make a couple shots and we win. We obviously were prepared and held them in check offensively as well.

I think maybe Svi could have helped on the offensive end and played more, but didn't defend very well when in the game. Having Greene vs the zone may have helped as well.

Jay Wright is a great coach, but I wouldn't trade Coach Self for him.

Agreed that I'd take BS every day and twice on Sundays. But isnt your second point part of coaching minercoach? Look at any other teams bench minutes. Heck Buddy never comes off the floor and OU got 50 combined minutes from their bench. KU had 18 in a game where we had foul issues. One guy from Villanova in tonights game had 26. That seems odd to me.

I've brought this up all year. I think Svi, Bragg, and Diallo can be stars. If there is one area I think we can be critical of Coach Self it is in the area of letting his players play through some mistakes during the season so they are ready come tourney time.

This however doesn't mean he was out coached. He has a philosophy and sticks with it. Up until tonight, we thought he had done a tremendous job molding this team into a championship contender.

Out coached as a whole? No. Out manuevered in one aspect? Quite possible.
