“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
It's now official, RCBers: Konza and Konza Jr. are headed to Louisville this week to help will our Jayhawks to two more big wins!
This will be the second-ever tourney road trip for my son and I together. (I've made several of my own over the years, but only one before with him) The first and last one for he and I was in Omaha for the opening-round games in 2012. We brought the good vibes that weekend, resulting in two KU victories plus the bonus of willing #15 Norfolk State to the mega-upset over #2 Misery.
Here are a few shots of my son from that phenomenal road trip. (Note: he had just lost his baby teeth, so he had kind of a "Cole Aldrich" look going, haha)
My son with KU radio color announcer and former player, Greg Gurley. (Note the two beers he's holding in one hand, LOL)
My son with the KU cheerleaders at a pep rally. I told him at the time "Son, you may not appreciate this moment that much right now, but trust me, in about 10 years, you will!
________________
So...are any other RCBers going to be there? If so, we'd love to meet up at some point!
At a minimum, it looks like we had some RCB "good karma" representation in Des Moines, we'll have it in Louisville, and Mom and company will be carrying the baton in Houston!
Hope some of you will join us in Louisville. Life is short...and sometimes you just have to say "What the heck." Especially when it involves our beloved, soaring Jayhawks in the post-season!

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
Envious, man! Anna and I will be looking for you in the crowd, and hope the trip is an absolutely wonderful lifetime memory for KJr and dad! Bring on ALL the good karma, Brother Konza! ROCK CHALK!

Thanks, Wheatie. He's grown a LOT in the intervening 4 years, but still has his Mom's good looks.
As for his jersey, nope, he has his own style. For about 3 years now, he's been partial to the jersey #15, which is what he wears in his travel leagues. (He loves Mario and has pictures of JoJo on his wall as well--LOL)

Thanks, Brother Eric!
I wish I could talk you and Anna into making the trek yourselves. After all, it's a tad closer to Louisville from where you are than for me. Just sayin'...
We'll definitely bring the good vibes...I couldn't afford the good seats, though, so you may not see us on TV! Maybe on Saturday, though...I decided not to spring for tickets on Saturday, as I'm hoping to get cheaper ones with better views from some Maryland fan after we win Thursday ... ... or from the loser of the Miami/Villanova game. Fingers crossed I can make a good deal on site...
Thanks again! And if we win it all, I might just have to schedule an earlier business trip to KC, so that I can come see the parade with you in Lawrence!

Pics are great! And yes, in a few years, the young man will certainly appreciate the photos with the cheerleaders a whole lot more
Also, after seeing the photo with Gurley, it got me wondering, is there not a radio broadcast from Bob Davis and Gurley during the tournament? And if not, is b/c CBS doesn't allow it? And if the answer is an obvious yes, my apologies for asking the question.
