I know not all here particularly like the Shockers, but I do believe we are united in our dislike of AZ.

Here's hoping for an 11-6 upset!

Kelly had position and ref did not call OTB on UofA player, but foul on Kelly.

Marshall was so shocked at the call all he could do was stare in amazement at the ref.

I'm not a Marshall fan, but I had to agree with him.

Looking good, as is WSU.

AZ averages 81 PPG.
Part is AZ is simply missing open shots, but a good part is good D by WSU.

Just don't like Wildcats, wherever they are from.

Hitting shots, and blocked a shot that turned into a transition bucket.

Just hit another 3, WSU up 49-29, 12:50 to go.

Skin them cats, Shockers!

All 6'1 of him is really playing well on both ends of the court tonight!

Congrats to them!

Always a good thing when we don't have AZ in the mix any more.

Thoughts on how Miami will deal with the WSU defense? It was pretty good today.

First, let me say that I'm not a Shockers fan at all. I have no reason to be, as there are no natural affinities for me with them. I also don't like Greg Marshall's personality or his past aspersions toward KU. Lastly, I hate that they not only beat us in the last tournament, but beat us going away. It wasn't even a good game.

With all of that having been said, I pulled for them tonight for the same reason--my contempt for Arizona runs pretty deep.

I must say that that was a truly dominant win--what I saw of it, anyway (not much--had to swim). They must be ranked #1 in KenPom adjD for a reason, because their holding Zona to 19 (was it?) in the 1st half is nuts.

They will be a supremely tough out for the teams ahead of them. Naturally they're in our bracket--as if it wasn't already loaded!

JRHawk, I'm happy for you (as an alum), but I hope KU keeps advancing and doesn't have to face WSU. I'd rather play Villanova, Miami, or someone else (if we get to the Elite Eight) than to have to play the Shockers. I think it would be a great game, but I'm not sure if my heart could take it. Nor my stomach (no way) if somehow they beat us again. I think this year's KU team, when playing on all cylinders, could beat this WSU team 3 out of every 5 or 4 out of every 7 games, but in a one-and-done scenario I would fear a potentially "off" day for one or more of our guys that might doom us.

Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. It's all about UConn right now.

Congrats to the Shockers on an impressive win. Nice to see Zona bow out in the first round!

PS: I had to note that Tarczewski is a senior and that was the last hurrah for him. Bowing out in the first round. I'll just leave it at that, with no more comment.

I don't care for UofA fans - goes back to 2002 NCAA in Abq.
WSU led 53-29, then let their foot off a little. During the game they showed stats re consecutive games of not being held to 60 points - think UofA was at the top, but can't find that stat this morning.

For me to actively cheer for WSU they would have to be playing a personal axis of evil team, ( Kentucky, Roy's Boys , Duke) Though if Bill Walton were doing the game and yammering away about "Conference of Champions" I might at least turn neutral.

Beyond that last March combines with my history at a once proud ( but now too broke to play in the NIT) Missouri Valley school, to wish the Shockers a prompt exit and a safe journey home.

I would prefer them out before we have to play them. Last years tank job still hurts, and a similar outcome this time would leave a really big mark for a very long time. These in state games present huge downside but minimal upside, even if they happen in the Regional Final.

Then again this year we appear to have the personnel to restore order, but I'm still "Go Canes!" I really don't see anybody from the Nova, Iowa , Temple bracket beating WSU.

Concur on your closing assessment. It would have to be Miami, or they're likely headed to the Elite Eight. And they are the one team I don't want to see there, should we make it. Sweet revenge would be great, but the pressure on Self and us would be far greater in that matchup than any other we would have.

Let's just get to that game first, then we can focus on it. (It'll be a nice problem to have at that stage!) B)

Agree Konza - from what I saw of them I hope KU is worrying about the next game and who they may or may not play in the Eiite game.
Also, please check your personal email.
Thanks.

Competitive athletes don't worry about who they are playing. Whether or not they play well is a function of different issues, but fear is not one of them. And the 'pressure' of playing WSU is all 'us.' The players don't really care who they play. WSU is a good team, as is Miami, as is UConn, etc. We are a great team, and when we play well, nobody is going to beat us. My only concern is the refs. As time goes by, game by game, the refs are the variable that I fear the most. In the most bizarre world of NCAA tournament basketball, games are being decided by 3 guys who couldn't carry the jocks of any of the players. Their incompetence and unpredictable determination of what is, and what is not a foul make more difference than missed or made FTs. It makes no sense, but the inconsistency and unpredictability of the zebras is the wild card in this tournament. And that is what I fear.

"When you have a ruling class that doesn’t believe in — or even much like — the fundamental values of the nations it rules, things tend to work out poorly.”

Despite my grad ties to WSU, not a big fan of Marshall or the program. Still, I'd rather see them win over AZ...I guess...

Will be happy to see them head home next time.
