I would have to believe that Ford is doomed if KState wins tonight. And they are on the cusp of winning right now. I don't see any way he keeps his job given the horrible year that OSU has just had. The question, then, is who replaces him? Greg Marshall?

Shorts on Backwards, perhaps? :woohoo:

I'm sure OSU would love to have Marshall.

But unless his situation at WSU has changed significantly over the past year, I just can't see him leaving WSU for OSU -- even if Pickens still has enough $$$ left after the drop in oil prices to offer Marshall an obscene amount of money to leave Wichita for Stillwater. I could be wrong, but I just don't see the attraction for him, given what he currently has in place.

JR, how are the waters in Wichita?

Hawks need to compare the 3- game sweep- squish the grapes. As for OK State, coaching situation, Gottleib would be an interesting choice.

...that's who the fans want. I don't think Self is in the discussion, lol.

Gottlieb has been fairly anti-KU on broadcasts, so I'm sure our fans would absolutely LOVE to have an opportunity to chant "Pants on Backwards" guaranteed at least once a year.

You have to assume that he's grown tired of that story by now, which would make cementing it into the public's top-of-mind impression of him would be all that more sweet.

Just as Bob Denver became typecast as Gilligan and never got another major acting role afterward, I'd like the phrase "pants on backwards" to be synonymous with Gottlieb beyond Lawrence.

Gottlieb has no experience coaching. None. It would be almost unprecedented to hire someone to be the head man at a major program without any experience, even as an assistant. He's smart, engaging, aggressive and glib, but he is a newborn at coaching. I don't think OSU throws millions at someone with that profile. It would be insane, even more insane than giving Ford one more year.

I agree with you Senex. Don't see that happening.
HE - I can't see the Arkansas River from here, but will take a stab at the Wichita waters. If WSU makes the Big Dance, sure they will be fine. If not, may be some grumbling, especially after playing UNI the same way the last two times and losing both, but don't see it becoming serious. Of course, I've been wrong many times before.

That's why I'm hoping they do it. ;)

I actually was half-joking with it, but I'm sure he'd lobby like crazy to get it, and given that the guy is unsurpassable in self-confidence, he might just snow-job them into hiring him. Then we'd get to see what he does with all of that arrogant self-assurance as it applies to coaching 18-22 year-olds. My hunch is he'd be an ultimate disaster (albeit a very brash, loud one), and that would be kinda fun to observe.

Might just be some barbeque, but there's certainly some chatter surrounding it.

Apparently Eddie Sutton was questioned if he'd support Gottleb as coach and had this to say:

“I would. Sean would, too,

Most players who are any good, and if they’ve played in a good coaching situation, they can coach. I would have no problem in supporting (Doug Gottlieb). I think Sean would feel the same way.

Doug is smart. I think he would be a great recruiter. If he’s smart enough to get good assistant coaches — guys who feel similar to the way he feels — I think he would be all right.

Obviously this doesn't make it so, and it could also be argued quite logically that Eddie would say kind things about ANY of his former players. He has no reason to thrash him. Nevertheless, I think this quote has fanned the embers of the speculation.

I'd be happy to watch OSU bungle this one, and giving us an easy thing to mock. Might also help us boost our record in Stillwater where we've struggled more than elsewhere.

But yeah, it would be a questionable choice at best. Then again, as someone once said, "you can't fix stupid." So of OSU is stupid enough to bring in a rookie coach who's only experience beyond playing is being a loudmouth on TV, that's ok with me.
