Just had to be the case. Vote was 3-3-3 tie with HCBS, TS, and Huggie Bear. While Self knew in heart of heart that WV finishing 2nd was more of an accomplishment he probably knew that snake of a coach most likely had another clause in his contract to get Big Bucks if COY! Well he had already gotten 25 Gs at KU's expense with the win in Morgan(Fairchild- yeah, that's the ticket)town, so he was damned if he would be party to another windfall. Shoulda voted for Drew!!

Really? Or just a crazy fun story?
Inquiring minds want to know!?!

No shocker there. Self would never vote for himself, and I can guarantee that Drew would never vote for Self.
I also don't think WVU and Tech are out of the discussion.
Tech was supposed to stink on ice, but Tubby got them (likely) into the tournament. That's a pretty good delivery on expectations.
Huggy's team wasn't ranked in the AP in preseason (#23 coaches), and played themselves into the top 10 and 2nd place finish in the league. Again, pretty good outcome based on initial projections.
Of course, this was the year that KU "might" get knocked off their perch by one of the Oklahoma teams, Texas, ISU, or maybe even Baylor. We know how that worked out. Self's biggest problem is that the expectation is that KU will be in the hunt (if not the favorite) every year. So winning it all might seem like "no big deal". Nevertheless, to people who watch more closely, Self really did find a way to "flip" this team 10-11 games ago. Our trajectory had turned downward, and he reversed it 100% which put us back in the hunt. But not only did we emerge in contention for the top but ended up winning it by 2 games with solid road wins at Texas, OU, and Baylor. We were the only undefeated team at home (ok, that's not beyond belief) but our 6-3 road record was also tops in the league. In fact, if you take out the OSU loss, on paper, this season is dang near flawless with "won't hurt you losses" to MSU, @WVU and @ISU.
So despite merely maintaining our position as the #1 team in the league, we did it in a manner that is being recognized for what it is.
