"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot
We've all heard it: win at home, win half on the road, don't forget the scissors and stepladder because you'll be cutting down nets.
Obviously, KU got this done. Undefeated at home (so far) and 6-3 on the road. With a 2 game lead, we could be 5-4 on the road and still be 1 game up, or 4-5 on the road and in a position to share. So the formula holds up pretty well.
Looking at the rest of the league, it's easy to see where teams over-performed and where the blew it.
Home record: KU is the only school to go undefeated (so far) at home. The next closest teams (so far) are 7-2, and it's a 4 way tie between ISU, Texas, WVU, and OU.
Road record: KU's 6-3 mark is tied for best in the bunch with Baylor. Baylor, however, went .500 at home (so far..and could still dip below that) which is only good for a current 4th place.
Texas and ISU both tied for 2nd best home record (7-2), but also went below .500 (3-5) on the road. So at the moment, Texas, ISU and Baylor are all tied at 10-7, but Baylor was the odd duck with a stellar road record and crappy home record.
Worst home records: TCU gets the crown with a 2-6 record (beating Texas and OSU. Honorable mention to OSU...had KU not totally blown it there, they'd have been tied with TCU for worst home record. KSU and TCU share the honor of leaving Stillwater with an L. Clearly our low point.
Worst road record: Tie between TCU and Tech who have yet to win on the road. KSU's 1-7 road record gets honorable mention, and TCU gets the special honor of giving the Kitties their only road win.
Biggest surprise: OU. 7-2 was a good home record, and they're 4-4 on the road. Had KU lost in Norman, OU and WVU would be tied at 12-5, and KU would only be 13-4 going into Saturday. So aside from following "the formula" our biggest accomplishment this year was beating OU twice and our biggest "embarrassment" was (no shock here) was getting our butts kicked at OSU where we sunk to essentially the same lowly place as KSU and TCU...rock bottom.

“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”

That's good stuff, NotO. And you'd have to hope that our ability to get it done outside of AFH will help us in the tourney. It hasn't always played out like that in the tourney, but we can hope!
Much obliged on putting that together.
