“With kindest regards to Dr. Forrest C. Allen, the father of basketball coaching, from the father of the game.”
1936 inscription on the portrait of Dr. Naismith, displayed above Phog Allen's office desk at KU.
I bet you're "sitting around, thinking about KANSAS" today!!!

"When I was a freshman, I remember Coach Naismith telling us how important it was to play good defense." - Mitch Lightfoot
He was sooooo close. Didn't get it done at KSU, and now the frustration continues at WVU.

Don't forget about Cincinnati, where he had some solid teams as well. Including a team in 1999-2000 that was the prohibitive tourney favorite until Kenyon Martin suffered that grotesque fibula break in the C-USA tourney just prior to the Dance.
The point of my post was less about his track record than the fact that he was utterly pretending to have no focus on KU, when in reality we know full well he thinks of us all the time. So much so, that BEATING KU IS BUILT INTO HIS CONTRACT AS AN EXTRA MONETARY INCENTIVE!
I love it that, as of 10pm CST last night (or more like 8:15 CST), any hope he had of coming back to gain a share of the title with the dominant king of the heap went out the window. So today he IS thinking of Kansas, and it's in a head-shaking way.
