I have a theory that the NCAA Tourney Champ rarely comes from the toughest conference. I think there are 2 main reasons for this. 1 psychologically the teams from the toughest conference take for granted that they will beat the teams from the smaller conferences and they take for granted winning early rounds of the tournament. This lack of mental preparation usually costs them because all the teams are good. 2 Physically they are more worn down because every game is physically demanding. The teams in less tough leagues have some games that are easy and require less mental and physical effort to win. This makes them more prepared for the final tournament.

Some might think I am just making excuses for the big XII but I am talking a lot longer window than just the last year or 2. I remember several years back when the Big East was the considered the top conference and they had a lot of flame outs in the tournament. Me being short sighted and anti big east said that showed they were not that good. I think I was wrong. They were that good but they were more worn out than the other teams they played.

After I posted this I thought about the ACC. This has historically been a very top heavy league. they have a few very good teams but also a few teams that are just not very good that give them that physical and mental rest to recharge. Remember this is just a theory..."a game theory."
