interesting Svi was only plus 1. I thought he played well. He made some very nice passes into the post against that zone.

Svi played very nice minutes both on defense and offense. The +/- is ultimately a team stat that is prblematic on an individual basis over a small dataset. So it must always be taken within the brioader context of other assessments. I was very pleased with Svi's minutes yesterday. I was also pleased with Brannen for the most part although he always seems to make a couple boneheaded plays. I was mostly pelased with Jamari as well although he tends to make ill-advised plays also. Our bench was not our problem yesterday.

Given the combination of Svi's solid play (including on D--he's most definitely light years ahead of Green there) and Selden's long sleepwalk before he came to life, was I the only one a little surprised that Svi didn't see the court much at all (if any) in the 2nd half?
Not a critique, just a question... In the end, it worked out, but for a long stretch there I was curious why he wasn't getting more minutes, since he performed well in the first half.

Selden woke up a bit in the 2nd half defensively. He would jsut go zombie when he crossed the timeline to the offensive side. Then zombie mode went away with about 5 minutes to go in the game and he played well offensively.

Oh, I know. I was thinking of the first chunk of the second half, though--curious why Svi wasn't in for some of that, given Selden's continued woes.
I'm glad it all worked out in the end (Selden came up huge, alongside Landen, Frank, and Devonte), but it still made me curious at the time it was unfolding.

Talk about an instance where this stat just doesn't tell the story.
The guy who held this team together throughout the game was Frank, yet the #s show him with a negative delta.
Selden tried to throw the game away (at least it seemed like that after his third absolutely terrible turnover) before he finally woke up and jumped into his Superman suit to earn his positive delta.
Devonté wasn't even close to his Buddy Hield guarding best, but there he is atop the list. I'll bet between him and Frank that DG had the least amount of shared court time with bad Selden, bad Lucas (who thankfully woke up at the end) and Greene (who was again a huge question mark at best) and the most with Svi and Traylor, who played well in their few minutes on the court.
And what about Scott Drew?
Glad you asked. Help me out here.
Not to take a single, solitary thing away from our guys last night, but didn't he lose this game for the Bears as much as KU won it?
Using his last timeout with over 5 minutes to go in the game?
But perhaps even more importantly, at the end of the game when Lucas and Selden finally woke up, having Rico Gathers on the bench, and watching Lucas wrap up practically every loose rebound?
Did Gathers even get back into the game at the end? I just remember seeing him sitting and the announcers talking about him being on the bench and seemingly seething, apparently about not being in?
I know he's had limited PT lately due to being sick, but he didn't play like he was sick last night. Did something happen that I missed that got him benched? Did I miss him going back in after that shot of him on the bench? I don't think so. And don't get me wrong, I was glad our guys saw the open door and ran through it, but -- I'm just sitting here baffled and shaking my head about Drew.

The Gathers thing was indeed baffling. He was really getting after it, and was his usual rebounding machine all night. He was obviously very miffed at being taken out (I think that was it, over the foul call), and it was stunning that he never went back in during our huge run.
KU won the game and forced its will, but good ole Drew (aka Alfred E. Neuman) certainly didn't undercut that nice comeback!
(Oh, how I wish I could quickly photoshop this--inserting "Scott Drew"--but, alas, no such time...)
