This part made me cringe initially...
“I’m just going to keep shooting the ball, because I feel like that’s what the team wants me to do. That’s what I need to do: When I’m open, just let the ball go.”
...until he followed up with music to the ears (bold emphasis mine):
He says the Jayhawks can guard ball screens more cleanly, move the ball quicker and can get better focus defensively from both he and teammate Frank Mason.
Personally, though, he would like to continue to impact the game in more areas when he’s not making shots. That could be hustle plays, rebounding or being aggressive on drives to draw contact.
Wayne can fall so in love with his shot that he forgets to drive the ball too...which makes him nothing more than a one-trick pony. The other problem is that if his shots aren't falling, his frustration and bad energy level bleeds over into passive defense and insufficient overall effort.
Here's to Wayne executing on those pledges, which will only make KU more formidable...and to him continuing to feel closer to 100%.
