OU missed a couple of shots (a foul could've been called, but it wasn't definitive)...before Tech finally grabbed the rebound.

I will say that the Tech player, after grabbing the rebound, ran towards midcourt and, while celebrating, traveled in the process. I felt like OU should've gotten the ball back with about .5 seconds left.

Oh well, I'll take it, baby!

Wow, I really didn't think OU would lose this one. That's a bad loss for them, honestly. I know Tech is hot, but still. That was a must win for OU to hang in the race.

SO, what does this mean? It means, sports fans, that we now root HARD for OU to beat the Hillbillies in Morgantown this weekend, since that would leave both teams 2 games back of KU (if we can squish the grapes) heading down the stretch.

PS: Big loss for UNC on their home court tonight as well, going down to a suddenly very hot Puke team.

...and a win by OU over WVU would, I believe, make our magic number 2 (for at least a share of the title) with four games to go.

I hope the Jayhawks were watching and realize that there is no safe game on the road in the Big 12.

I agree with you, port, but I feel sorry for OU because the refs screwed them not twice, but 3 times in those closing seconds. I watched the last few seconds of the game on the recording several times, and TT committed 2, not just 1, uncalled foul. And you are absolutely correct about the travel, OU should have gotten the ball back with about .5 seconds left, and by NCAA rules that's enough time to inbound the ball and put up a shot.

I'm not saying OU would have won or even sent the game to overtime, but they should have had the opportunity to do so, and the whistle swallowing referees robbed them of that chance.

I didn't see it. But it sounds like the good ole Big 12 refs struck again.

THAT is what worries me a lot about the game at Bramlage. If you see this guy working our game there...

...you'd best strap on your seat belts very tight, because there WILL be turbulence. John Higgins is his name, and he likes to be the center of attention. He's not quite in the same league as this infamous buffoon from past KU history (Ed Hightower)...

...but he's certainly making a name for himself these days.

The ONLY thing that will enable the Grapes to hang with a far superior KU team, in my view, is to have the refs working to even the playing field. Or for KU to just have a complete face-plant (which is much less likely this year, given how we can spread around the badness or goodness on any one occasion--it's tough for all the guys to be one or the other).

Regarding the no-call on the travel, I thought the refs might stop play to call the travel, but it seemed that the ref by midcourt was running for his life anticipating the rushing crowd. (I do not have DVR, so that's what I remember.) And that was it.

I can only imagine if they called the travel and then had to clear the court of all the fans. And if OU hit a game-winning shot with .5 sec left. That would've been wild...

The hurt is strong here in Chapel Hill:

now we know how frustrated Kansas fans felt under Roy. Underachievers most years. Mind boggling coaching.

I didn't see it, but I feel like it's deja vu all over again (h/t to Yogi) when I read about Roy not calling timeouts at key parts of the game.

It's all come full circle, as I am the guy who now suffers through Andy Reid's poor clock management with the Chiefs (and hearing "I told you so's" from Philly fans)...then segueing now to UNC fan laments on Roy's timeouts (or lack thereof). :blink: :woohoo: :silly: :blink: :dry:

PS: I saw some comments online somewhere last night that he was teared up in the post-game presser. He used to save that for the post-season when he was at KU...guess he's starting earlier now.

Hawks win in Lubbock looking better and better, and it was post OU part 1. I was not surprised given OU coming off the KU game in an emotionally down. As for puke's win, I can't stand coach alphabet and his minions and now they are on a roll, "traveling" their way to wins against UNC and UVA.

Agree about Duke. Remember they are the defending NC. Thankfully are one of four 4 loss teams in ACC, with UNC & Miami atop with 3 losses.

If they go into the tourneys on a roll like they're on now, they will not be a team anyone wants to draw.

I looked up their guard numbers earlier, and they're pretty ridiculous for a freshman and sophomore:

* Ingram (frosh): 17.3 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 41% 3PFGM

* Allen (soph): 20.7 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 42% 3PFGM

This continues a streak (from last year's NC team) of Coach Kookywookyhuey being very comfortable playing, developing, and growing his young stud recruits.

Dangerous team, potentially, if they continue to gel...

OM goodness.....an Ed Hightower flashback. :woohoo: (this is an extremely frightened look, not a good one.)

I thought the Big 12 ref/zebra we dislike is the one named "Self." Anyway that name rings a bell as a ref we talked about earlier in the year. Cannot recall the game now. I almost think it was a home game......

It's Thursday and it's an all day "better have a snickers" day. :silly:

We got/had a nice rain yesterday afternoon and evening......Happy in so cal!

Yes, you're right about the other ref that night--a true burr in Self's rear and the one who T'd him up. But Higgins is the guy who has consistently called the more vexing KU games.

Let's pray neither are in Manhattan Saturday, much less both. I have a VERY bad feeling about the officiating going into that one...

Speaking of burr in the saddle, the absolute worst ref was Jim Burr, old Elmer Fudd. He was pathetic. As for Higgins, he has npbeen my least favorite ref since the game he literally gave to Texas Tech in 2005 (I think) when he did not call the foul committed against Aaron Miles in Lubbock and basically made about 3 or 4 decisively bad calls. Remember Aaron running the baseline and the Tech player picking him off. No Call. Then if I remember he actually called a bogus foul on Miles. On another topic, it was funny as hell reading the "why doesn't Roy call timeouts" angst. As Konza said, fpdeja vu all over again. On a 3rd topic, I was pretty disgusted with the thread on the Tar Heel board just totally disrespecting those old fans in the good seats. When I was going to every game in the Fieldhouse back about 10-12 years ago (driving from OKC) I would often stop to pick up an elderly friend who had very nice season tickets (4th row) because he had benne buying them for 35+years. Well when the new regime to be unnamed came in and required nphuge donations for those seats came in he had to drop them since he was a retired school teacher that missed very few games in 40 years even having to drive from Mulvane. If you want my opinion, he is the heart and soul of the KU faithful. He stood and he yelled but not as long and not as loud as the youngsters. I love seeing the youngsters yelling and screaming and making AFH an awesome venue. But I have great respect for those fans who have loved KU for 40, 50 and even 60 years. I guess I am an old guy now in that 40+ year range. I will put up my passion and dedication and support of KU against any of these young whippersnappers. Even though they can yell louder and stand longer. I don't think that is a thorough seriatim of qualifications of a true worthy fan. Glad it was a Tar Heel and not a Jayhawk.

Don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon!!

My best childhood friend's family had the same circumstance. Had season tix for a VERY long time. 4 seats, about 3 rows up....top of the key. Couldn't do the Williams fund donation plus the cost of tickets.

They groused, but were TV fans, none the less.
