But Cincy has been Phogged before and survived,

KU and UC have played 7 times before, and despite the mixup in this game's pre-Game Notes, UC, not KU, leads the series 4-3

in THE "PHOG!!!" of KU it seems.
And Houston comes in atop of the league and under a full head of steam.
It's time for our JAYHAWKS to show their stuff.
These guys have been here before.
A higher ranked team coming into our home and trying to take Naismith's floor.
So LET'S GO, JAYHAWKS!
Add to the legend of Self and The Phog and Doc's Court.
Show everyone the tradition remains with this bluest of blue in this sport!
It's time for another KANSAS JAYHAWK...
... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!
Big 12 Game 9 for our #8/9 Jayhawks (17-4, 5-3) finds our Jayhawks playing to continue a 15 game win streak against higher ranked opponents in THE "PHOG!!!".
KU and #4/4 Houston (19-2, 6-2) have played 7 times before Saturday’s game, and KU leads the series 5-2 (2-1 in AFH). A loss to Houston keeps the Cougars atop of the Big 12 and KU dropping to at least 4th, 2 games behind the leader. A win against Houston and KU will end up the day either tied for first place with Houston and possibly TCU (best scenario) or tied for second or third if either or both of ISU (at Baylor) and Texas Tech (hosting Cincinnati) win on Saturday (you know who to put your ethereal energies behind!).

Our Jayhawk men are on the road again.
And while the road has never, ever been their friend
They plan to go and win on the road again...
"We'll take Manhattan"
on another ESPN Big 12 Big Monday KANSAS JAYHAWKS...
... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
Big 12 Game 10 for our alma mater's Men's basketball team (18-4, 6-3, W1) sees Bill Self and his Jayhawks travel 87 miles west on I-70 to take on Jerome Tang's streaking the wrong way Wildcats of Kansas State (14-8, 4-5, L4). We expect a KANSAS win, as usually happens in Manhattan. But we know that Bramlage, while usually the site of JAYHAWKS VICTORY ("We own this state"? HA! Dream on, kitty cat!), can be an unpredictable venue. As CorpusJayhawk notes "...other than Ames, no place gets more energized to play KU than the little purple people over yonder. This is never an easy game. We are the favorite, but throw all that out. This will be a dogfight."
And I'll note that after losing at lowly Oklahoma State their last game to extend their losing streak to 4, the mildcats are looking to scratch somebody up. Here's to our Jayhawks donning their metaphysical leathers and tanning the hides of those cats, chaps and hanging 'em on the wall for them to dread!
ALL TOGETHER NOW!!!
Tie them Wildcats down, boys.
Tie them Wildcats down.
Don’t leave Manhattan with a frown, just
Tie them Wildcats down!
Here's to KU continuing the great defensive presence displayed against Houston, continuing to share the rock and shoot it well, and to eliminating the throwaway turnovers they experienced against Houston to chalk up another W on the road!.

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
Big 12 Game 12 for our alma mater's Men's basketball team (19-5, 7-4, W1) sees Bill Self and his Jayhawks down in the north Texas town of ol' Lubbock to take on Grant McCasland's Texas Tech Red Raiders (17-6, 6-4, W1), who have just 1 home loss this season (to Cincinnati).
Here's to KU figuring out how to win on the road -- something they have not done this year (1-4 in Big 12). If they can win out the rest of the way (which seems unlikely at this point), they will be assured at least a share of the Big 12 title. The rest of this season is against them, though, as they will have to win at Tech tonight, and then at Norman, Waco and the season finale at Houston. And if they can manage to win every other game until the Houston rematch -- well, you know that the Cougars had that game circled in red even BEFORE the humiliation they took in AFH.

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
Big 12 Game 14 for our alma mater's Men's basketball team (20-6, 8-5, W1) sees Bill Self and his Jayhawks hosting the soon to be not so dearly departed Longhorns of Texas (17-9, 6-7)
As I write this on Saturday morning it looks like Kevin McCullar, who reportedly has not practiced this week, will not play today. Tweaked his previously bruised knee against OU last Saturday.

KU has an outside chance for a share of this year's Big 12 regular season title. KU needs to win out, including beating UH in Houston in the season finale, and ISU and UH must each lose at least one more game in order for KU to earn that 3-way share. Without all these wins and losses occurring, KU can win out and still finish no better than tied for second, and more likely finish third.
And that Big 12 title scenario is, I say again, very long odds indeed!
So, for me at least, if KU loses today Self needs to sit McCullar for the rest of the season AND the Big 12 Tourney in order for KM to be as healthy as possible for the NCAA Tournament.
Here's hoping for a KU W being recorded shortly after 7pm this evening to keep the season fires burning!

on another KANSAS JAYHAWKS...
... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
Big 12 Game 15 for our alma mater's AP #7 Men's basketball team (21-6, 9-5, W2) sees Bill Self and his Jayhawks hosting Big 12 newcomers the Cougars of BYU (19-8, 7-7)
As almost all of us know by now, Kevin McCullar is out indefinitely due to his knee. Self will not play him until he has had a week of practice under his belt and Self is comfortable that KM will be able to play well and hopefully with a minimal risk of reinjuring the knee. We know for sure he will not play Saturday at Baylor. The Senior Game in AFH versus KState is not set yet, but odds do not look good, Strictly my opinion, but I can see Kevin not playing again until the postseason. Self has indicated he does hope to have KM back before the NCAAs -- noting that KM would not be himself if he had not played for that long -- but Self has also said he just doesn't know if KM will play again this AY.
As I noted in the last pregame post, KU has an outside chance for a share of this year's Big 12 regular season title. KU needs to win out, including beating UH in Houston in the season finale, and ISU and UH must each lose at least one more game in order for KU to earn that 3-way share. Without all these wins and losses occurring, KU can win out and still finish no better than tied for second, and more likely finish third.
Again, the way UH and ISU have been playing, that Big 12 title scenario for KU is the longest of odds!
So -- all they can do is lace 'em up and play their best!
Here's hoping for another KU W being rock chalked up shortly after 9 pm this evening!

41 YEARS AGO, on
Mar 2, 1983: NU beat KU 60-58.
Tonight it's KState.
As a disappointing regular season (given the high expectations back in November) draws to a close, the Jayhawks look to avenge the L in Manhattan and finish their home schedule with their 41st straight Senior Game win. As CorpusJayhawk notes "If we were an 80% probability (to win) on average in those games the probability of winning 40 in a row is 1 in 10,000, But if we were a 70% probability on average the probability of winning 40 in a row is 1 in 1.5 million. So yes, this is a must win game. No one wants to be part of a team that breaks this amazing streak."
NOTE WELL that the KU Women won their Senior Game 3 days ago, taking it to Big 12 leading Oklahoma 83-74.

Big 12 Game 18 for our alma mater's AP #14 Men's basketball team (22-8, 10-7, W1) sees our guys at #1 Houston (27-3, 14-3, W7).
You will recall that KU, playing perhaps it's best game of the season, beat Houston in a 3:00 pm game played in The PHOG! back on Feb 3.
Big question for KANSAS today will be if Kevin McCullar will play. No word as of late Friday.
Since that loss in AFH Houston has lost two bench players for the season, but they have also won 8 straight since then.
