Kansas (14-7, 8-5) at Iowa State (2-13, 0-10), and our beloved birds must bring the same energy level they last displayed in AFH in order to break the 6 game road losing streak they are on, as even this season's lowly Cyclones will be up for the upset in Hilton. #23/24 Kansas (15-7, 9-5) versus hapless Kansas State (5-17, 1-12, the 1 being a win over winless ISU) in part 2 of the 2021 Sunflower Showdown.

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL DAY!!
#23/24 Kansas (16-7, 10-5) versus #15/11 Texas Tech (14-6, 6-5). who hope to pay back our Crimson & Blue clad lads for the L the Jayhawks hung on them TWO MONTHS AGO(!) in Lubbock.
Man, do I hope our guys come out on fire in this game! Our recent first half shenanigans won't stand against a quality Tech squad.
(I also hope that asteroid gets enough sleep Friday night. This came is not real early, but it's still way too early Hawai'i time -- 9 AM in the Islands at game time -- when he's trying to get his post online for us to read beforehand.)
TV Game voices will be Bob Wischusen (play-by-play) and Dick (Groan) Vitale (he's an analyst, I tell ya, the guy has got game and he knows how to talk it, if only he would stay in the game he's working and not wander away to far off realms that have nothing to do with the game at hand!), KU radio voices will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst). For those watching live and wanting to hear the radio instead of the TV talking heads, check out kuathletics.leanplayer.com/ . Now THIS is an interesting pickle! The ESPN pregame prediction just barely favors Tech to win 50.1% of the time -- *in* The Phog! -- compared to 49.9% for KANSAS... but the spread favors KU by 2!
In other words, it looks like a TOSS UP!

#17/19 Kansas (17-7, 11-5) versus #14/160 Texas (13-6, 7-5) as our Crimson & Blue clad lads look to make up for the L the teasips hung on them earlier in Allen Fieldhouse.
Once again, we need to come out on fire in this game! Fingers crossed for a hot hand or two - or three - in Blue for this game, and a much better showing on tdefense!

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
#17/19 Kansas (17-8, 11-6) versus #2/2 Baylor (18-0, 10-0) as our Crimson & Blue clad lads try yet again to avenge an L from earlier in the year. So far, only the teasips have been able to sweep the Jayhawks this season, but the Bears are certainly well positioned to do so, as asteroid's analysis indicates.
We've had the Defense to win in recent games, the question is will the Offense show up enough to record the biggest W of the season to date? Fingers crossed for a hot hand or two - or three - in Blue for this game, to accompany another solid showing on Defense!

Still no change on the KUAD Official Schedule (reads "ESPN Networks"), which has me wondering if the may be trying to get on ESPNU or ESPN2, but unless there are changes those channels already have scheduled games, so...

... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
(And a good time to once again note the contribution of jaythawk1 and his #1 son in creating and providing the Ball Day and Ball Night pics used in this thread! Thanks again, fellas!)
#13/14 Kansas (18-8, 12-6, 12-1 Home) hosts University of Texas - El Paso (12-10, 8-8, 2-8 Away) as our Jayhawks, in preparation for what we hope will be a highly successful postseason, look to close out the final home game of the AY2020-21 season with a win for the 38th year in a row.
Of note is that these two programs have met just four times in the past, the first being in the 1966 NCAA Tournament when then Texas Western beat the JoJo White led Jayhawks in the Midwest Regional Finals and went on to win it all. KANSAS won the last meeting on Nov. 30, 2013 in the third-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis 67-63 to finally get a win in the series, now standing at 3-1 UTEP. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in Lawrence. The Miners, one of the best ball handling teams in Division 1 (only 10.9 turnovers per game), have won their last 4 games by an average of almost 16 points, holding their opponents under 60 points per game during the streak.
TV Game voices will be Dave Armstrong (play-by-play) and Chris Piper (analyst) (YAY!), KU radio voices will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst). No real need to for this game, but for those few watching live and wanting to hear the radio instead of Dave and Pipe, check out kuathletics.leanplayer.com/ . ... Buh duh DUH duh DUH DUH duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH ... BALL NIGHT!
#11/12 Kansas (20-8, 12-6) plays #13/16 University of Texas (18-7, 11-6) as our Jayhawks, playing without Big Dave McCormack and Tristan Enaruna, look to defeat the only Big 12 team they have yet to register a win against this season.
TV Game voices will be Bob Wischusen (play-by-play) and Fran Fraschilla (analyst), KU radio voices will be Brian Hanni (play-by-play) and Greg Gurley (analyst). For those watching live and wanting to hear the radio instead of the TV talkning heads, check out kuathletics.leanplayer.com/ . Pause your device for about 15 seconds for a "real time" narration of the game, (Thanks, Bayhawk!) Note that you can also use leanplayer to listen to "Hawk Talk with Bill Self".

OF NOTE -- in it's 23 previous iterations since the first Big 12 Tournament in 1997, EVERY tournament winner has been an old Big 8 university. KU has won 11 titles, ISU has won 5, OU has won 3, OKSt has won 2, and Meth U won 2 while it was in the conference. Here's hoping that old Big 8 school record continues with this year's tournament with an OKSt v KU final!
Believe it or not, the ESPN pregame matchup predictor favors KANSAS to win 60.9% of the time, compared to 39.1% for tu. Clearly it is not allowing for the absence of Big Dave (IMO).The spread consensus pick favors tu by 1 (59%).

The ESPN pregame prediction just barely favors KANSAS to win 87.5% of the time compared to 12.5% for EW... but the odds and the upsets are the stuff of tournament legend, so let’s have none of that for this game, Jayhawks! The spread favors KANSAS by 10.5 points.

“As frustrated as a KANSAS fan after the NCAA tournament.”
The Trojans were great, all credit to them.
But I do have some issues with this ESPN story on the game.
www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=401310895
USC rolled to an 85-51 victory Monday night inside Hinkle Fieldhouse — more than doubling the worst margin of defeat for the Jayhawks in 49 trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Tain’t so, McGee, and simple research and math shows it.
The great Phog Allen’s AY1939-40 KANSAS JAYHAWKS, playing in the program’s very first NCAA Tournament appearance, lost to Branch McCracken’s Indiana Hoosiers 60-42.
18 points.
2x18=36
85-51=34
36>34
Simple research, simple math.
Marcus Garrett had 15 points for Kansas (21-9), which had never lost an NCAA tourney game by more than 16 points.
See my previous counterpoint.
Wilt Chamberlain wouldn't have made a difference on this night.
Hyperbole, yes, but really? What an ignorant buffoon! Of course Wilt would have made a difference.
On D KU would have focused on guarding the perimeter and dared the Trojans to drive on Wilt.
On O KU would have pounded the ball into Wilt, the greatest scoring machine the game has ever seen, and if USC double or triple teamed him, the great assists man that he was would have hit the open KU player who, without a Trojan draped over him, would have been much more accurate. (And yes, I left out “for a big man” in describing his passing skills because no one that can lead the NBA in assists over a season – 1967-68 with 702 -- needs such a qualifier)
I’m NOT saying KU would have won, but by God it would have been a game!
Now to be fair to ESPN, the story is posted on its site as a no byline Associated Press story, so perhaps it was not one of the ESPN reporters.
Whoever it was – geez, get it right, will ya?
ANYWAY -- enough sad sauce.
It will be interesting to see what roster changes happen with the Jayhawks over the off-season. Based solely on known departures the incoming trio of 4* 6-10/205 PF Zach Clemence, 4* 6-6/220 forward KJ Adams and JUCO transfer 6-9/265 Sydney Curry take all the currently available scholarships. BUT it is reported that Self & Co are actively trying to land another PG and another big in the COVID crazy Transfer Circus that is happening this off-season. That indicates to me that the staff know of at least two people that they are anticipating will transfer out to get playing time at another program. Tyon Grant-Foster? Tristan Enaruna? Latrell Jossell? Gethro Muscadin? I have no idea, those are names that social media is buzzing about. Time will tell.
Til then, ROCK CHALK!
