No details as yet. Bragg reportedly spent the night in county lockup and no bond has been reported posted as yet.
Happy Friday y'all.

Latest is that he's being arraigned at 3pm local time. Word is that it was battery involving a family member.

Not good at all. Not sure if it's significant that he wasn't bailed out earlier in the day, or if it's the kind of thing where bail would be set at the arraignment. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.

Pressure will be on for Landon to step his game up, for Azibuike to develop more quickly, and for Coleby and Lightfoot to pick up more minutes. Not a ton of depth in the paint before this happened, less now.

Hoping this is a short term thing, but if it's (best case) Bragg and his brother (does he even have one?) getting into a scrap that got out hand, I'm not sure that he'd be going (by himself) to the lockup overnight. Anyway, enough speculation for now.

The original information was domestic battery but the charge is misdemeanor battery and the location is a street with fraternity and sorority houses at 1 AM. Sounds more likely a fight than domestic abuse. Police and athletics still not releasing any details.

He was accused of striking his girlfriend and pushing her down the stairs. Pleaded not guilty and posted $500 bail.

This was included in the story;

"The offense report indicates Bragg is suspected of using alcohol and drugs or narcotics."

This is just sad news that really goes beyond basketball.

As the old saying(s) go;

Youth is wasted on the young and nothing good happens after midnight. In my line of work and position and many travels, it is all about trying not to put yourself into those potential situations including even the perception of any improprieties (sp). I represent the company I work for and anything negative I do or the mere perception reflects upon me, my family and the company (especially when I travel and in contact with customers). Unfortunately, the same can hold true for college athletes and I would hope that on one of the major messages to these kids when they come into a program. Even if that is the case, they will make their mistakes but must take responsibility for them..

Another old saying; It takes five positives to overcome every negative.

I am not trying to pass judgment but hopefully this will be a life lesson for all involved regardless of the outcome.

Sorry for going old school and probably a symptom of my upbringing.

Good grief...

Not a season goes by anymore, seemingly, without such drama.

I never thought it would be Bragg, however.

The mug shot shows him grinning as if he'd won the lottery.

Classy, Carlton. Very classy.

Same thing I thought, Murph, when I saw the photo. Big smile for the mug shot. Really?

Should he be found guilty, what do we think the response should be from the coach and staff? This is always sad no matter what--kids don't think about ramifications of actions but they do need to be accountable and a message sent that this is not tolerated.

First offense with a guilty plea to a lessor charge will get him diversion and a fine and BIG community service is my best guess for how it plays out in court. As for HCBS, I'm guessing some kind of suspension from actual games for a while??? :(

prior to this......did we expect Carlton to be a 4 year guy?

Has nothing to do with the topic.....just curious.

From all reports he was a lock for a first round pick. But I've stopped relying on all the reports on high school kids, especially tall kids who dominate simply by size.

Honestly, I believe he is the next Selden. Big body that dominates in high school, all the hype coming into college, but may not ever advance skill wise to allstar D-1 or NBA level. I see a lack of overall athletic skill (runs funny, weak hands, plays much smaller than his height), with almost no improvement from last year.

Other than a soft shooting touch, he hasn't brought much to the table. I hope I'm wrong and he's just in a funk, but I don't see anything but a four year player out of him, without any regard to his off court issues.
