| Roy Williams - "We did some nice things. We've got to get a lot better defensively. We gave them too many second shots. In the first half they had 10 points on offensive rebounds. I don't know what it was in the second half. The backboards I was not real pleased with. Defensively if you don't box out that makes it difficult for your team.
"I look down and I see seven of 16 from the three-point line. I'd like to shoot even a little better percentage than that. We've talked about it a lot. Jerod has taken it to heart more than anybody. He had zero attempts from the three-point line, and I thought at one point tonight that he definitely should have shot a three-point shot. I don't think we'll see him never shoot anymore threes, but he's really taken it to heart about trying to get the great shot and get the ball to the basket. He had seven assists and one turnover, and he was just sensational. I thought Scot was active, and I thought Paul Pierce was very good on the offensive end as well. "The shooting percentage was probably the thing I was more pleased with than anything. We didn't shoot it as well in the second half. I thought we rushed a couple of them. Nick was a little nervous, made some really nice passes, but has to have better shot selection. "For the most part I thought we gained more from it than we would have from a practice. We talked about it as a dress rehearsal or glorified practice. We'll look at the tape tomorrow, and hopefully learn a lot more from the game tonight and the tape, and be better when we play again. "For the most part we converted our break opportunities. One time we had a three-on-one and miscommunicated and made a bad decision between Jerod and Ryan. But other than that we made some pretty good decisions on the break, tried to make the easy pass, and moved the ball when we had the open outside shot, and for the most part knocked it in. I think Billy will make more than he made tonight, and I think Nick will make more than he made. But other than those two I thought we shot it really well. "I'd rather Ryan didn't have as many rebounds as he had. We've got to have those big guys rebounding the ball. I do want Ryan to help out on the defensive boards, and he does have a knack for getting on the backboard. His assist-to-errors rations was not quite what we would want, but I was pleased with him and thought he made some good decisions out there." Australian coach Ian Stacker - "I thought that we've played against some good college teams, and Kansas is a step up from all of them. Their defensive intensity forced us to play in a style that we weren't used to. They forced us to do things quicker and take a lot of bad shots." Jerod Haase - (Concerning his short, old-style shorts) "I'm going back to the old school. I figured I'd look five pounds lighter just by changing shorts. They keep me rom getting tripped up. And maybe I'll get a date this way." Scot Pollard - (About his blue nail polish) " I'm not saying I'll do it every game. I just got a manicure Saturday before the football game, and I didn't feel like taking it off." |
