It's never going to be a pretty game when Oklahoma State and Kansas play, because both teams play so hard defensively. It's a difficult game for us, because Big Country (Reeves) is such a threat inside. And then they have Randy (Rutherford) and Brooks (Thompson) outside, so they're really an outstanding basketball team.
"I was proud of our team for playing as well as we did, and we had a chance to win the game on more than one occasion, but didn't make a play a couple of times. And give them credit. They're a good basketball team. They have three losses in the league, and yet snap your fingers three times and they're that far away from being 9-0 themselves. "It was a hot night, so guys were really getting after each other, and it had all the elements for putting somebody into fatigue. But the last minute of the game kids were still diving on the floor, still doing those kinds of things. "You look at Bryant Reeves, Brooks Thompson and Randy Rutherford and you know you have to stop those guys, and yet they got 46 points. so we didn't do a good job of stopping them, but I thought we cut down on their percentage pretty well and played well on the defensive end of the floor. But we had our chances and just didn't get it done. "Greg (Ostertag) has been playing outstanding basketball for us since we hit the conference season, with the exception of the Kansas State (64-68 KU loss) game. He played well again tonight. We didn't do as good a job of getting the ball into him as we wanted to, and credit Oklahoma State's defense for that. "We're struggling a little bit without Richard Scott being able to do things he normally can do. "We only got two points off the bench tonight. We usually get better play than that, but we ddin't get it tonight. Give Oklahoma State credit for guarding those guys, too." |
