Season summary

"The thing I was most proud of was our defensive play again.

"They went to a couple of junk defenses--triangle-and-two a couple of times, particularly in the second half--and we recognized that. Steve and Patrick made some baskets. But Greg Ostertag got us off to a great start by dominating things inside and blocking some shots. Greg Gurley gave us a big plus off the bench, to say the least. And I really believe the defense got us set up to get some easy ones, even though that was probably the worst we've played this year on the break. We turned it over when it was unnecessary. But that was the only negative, was the unforced turnovers on the break. Other than that, I was pleased with the way we played.

"This one was a little special, I guess. This is a team and a school that I competed against for a long, long time. And getting to come back to my home state, with some family and friends here, I was happy to get a win. But I was more happy for our kids. I just want us to start playing better, and I think we saw some signs of that tonight.

"One thing we have to understand is Greg's (Gurley) back has been bothering him this year. He wears a brace during games and during practices all the time, and I would think that inhibits his mobility a little bit, his agility to go inside. He is a stand-still shooter, and that is his greatest strength. And tonight he shot it in."
