| "Fazekas got 17, but he got eight in the last two minutes when
we subbed and our bench didn't do a good job guarding him. But Dub and
Christian and the other guys did a great job. I think he was 3-16 going
into that. And Pinckney was 1-10, so we did a good job defensively. Our
first shot defense was good. We've got to rebound the ball better, and get
it out and run more. We did some good things.
"But the thing that concerns me with this team as much as anything is our veterans lose interest. We've got a chance to put the foot on the throat to start the second half, and they think the game's over. We had a nice, comfortable lead, but we've got to have more of a killer instinct. "I was really pleased with how we finished the first half, though. We went on an 8-0 run, or something like that in the last two minutes. Mike and Aaron, those two kids from Portland played great tonight. I thought Mike was terrific and Aaron put up a great stat line. "We did some good things. For us to score 85 points, and for Dub to only get 14 and Keith to only get 12 is probably a pretty good sign for our basketball team. We still play in spurts too much, but I think we're getting better. "(Aaron Miles) is going to pass Jacque in a lot of areas this year, and Jacque was great here. But Aaron does so many good things. He's keeping the defense honest now, shooting the basketball. I still think we can run more and better with him. Russell is probably doing a better job of attacking the basket in transition than Aaron is right now. If we can just get Russell where he's a little bit tighter with the ball like Aaron is, and doesn't have as many careless plays. Russell has a real knack for getting the ball in the basket. Mike is giving us good minutes, JR got us off to a good start, and Keith, to me, looks like his first step is as good as ever. "Tonight our guys came out focused and ready to play. They (Nevada) ran into a buzz saw. But that will be a team that will finish in the top three in their league." |
