The Big 12 is jam-packed with teams that should exit the 2024 transfer portal cycle feeling pretty darn good about what they accomplished. Kansas, fresh off its worst Big 12 record in the Bill Self era, swung big and connected on talented bucket-getters to buff up its star power in a real way. New West Virginia coach Darian DeVries needed superstars to have a chance in Year 1 and some long-term pieces to build some semblance of staying power. WVU accomplished both objectives.

Houston needed a point guard, and it got a good one. Baylor landed two of the best transfers in the country to put next to its electric recruiting class. Kansas State needed a fresh start and Jerome Tang will get it. Coleman Hawkins and his $2 million-plus NIL deal is the headliner of K-State's buzzy transfer haul. Teams like Cincinnati, Texas Tech and Arizona used the portal to plug their gaps with projected difference-makers.

This league is about to be a bear. Nine Big 12 teams are rated in the top-30 nationally, per Bart Torvik's early 2025 projections.

Transfer defensive tackle Javier Derritt from North Dakota State could be a solid choice here. He played in 56 games over four seasons for the Bison, including 29 consecutive starts at noseguard. He's coming off a career-best 31 tackles in the 2023 season and will be added to a defensive line unit that could use some fresh (and more so productive) faces. - Harry Lyles, Jr.

• Baseball - KUAthletics.com: Right-handed pitchers Ethan Lanthier and Tegan Cain, catcher Ben Hartl and left-handed pitcher Evan Shaw were all selected on the third and final day of the MLB Draft on Tuesday. The four Jayhawks drafted brings the total to six Kansas players selected after right-handed pitcher Hunter Cranton and infielder/catcher Kodey Shojinaga were drafted on Monday.

• Women's Golf - KUAthletics.com: Kansas women's golf has been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Scholar Team GPA Awards Kansas, who accumulated a 3.83 team GPA for the 2023-24 season, finished the academic year tied for the 14th-best GPA in Division I. The Jayhawks are the only Big 12 program named a recipient of the award.
