Yesterday was always planned to be a long day outside working, but it started early as my brother-in-law came over before 0800 to help with the final stage of completing our backyard privacy fence extension (his grass was too wet to mow, so we got a jump start in the cooler hours of the morning). When we finished (another project objective obtained!) and our ladies had fed us (our wives and their Mama Lala, 91 and counting!, worked together to prepare pork chops in hot sauce, homestyle fried potatoes, refried beans and hot tortillas, amply supplemented with a bottle or two of cerveza), it was time for a short break before project clean up, barrier fencing off the entire backyard lawn to allow it to recover from dog use, and then my mowing and trimming said lawn, back and front. The dogs now have their own dedicated "relief station" area in the new fenced-in section, which was the reason for the fence extension project. I did actually start to write a Sunday report, but ... ah, well... overcome by events again...
As Mike Tyson once said "Everyone has a plan 'til they get punched in the mouth." (And no, I *know* I could *not* beat Mike Tyson.:silly: )

KU ATHLETICS

KU MEN'S HOOPS -
• Today resumes the May through June 2024 quiet period (on-campus visits and contacts allowed, but nothing off-campus) until the next evaluation period (June 28-30). Then comes the NCAA bylaw designated annual dead period for the month of July. The next full "recruiting" period, where both on & off campus in-person contacts are allowed, begins SEP 4.

• Note well - the NBA draft will be held this week. Best of luck to both Johnny Furphy (projected to be a first round pick, and invited to be in The Green Room set aside for those prospects expected to go in the first round) and Kevin McCullar, who is projected in most current mock drafts to go in Round 2.

"At midnight on Sunday night, the college football recruiting calendar will move to a dead period. It will conclude a busy month of June for the Kansas football staff, which hosted 32 high school recruits for official visits. KU entered June with four high school players committed and exited the recruiting period with 13 players committed.

But, there are still a handful of dominoes that have yet to fall and those pieces will shape what the fall looks like for the KU staff.

At this point, KU has filled a fair share of its needs. KU is done recruiting high school quarterbacks, running backs, defensive linemen and safeties. There is still work to be done at other positions..."

I'm rather hoping that the Chiefs make the move to the Legends area. I would like to see the Royals end up in downtown KCMO. Seems fair to share, and that way there would be a KANSAS CITY team that would actually be in KANSAS.
(You do know that folks from outside the region often do not know that there are two Kansas Citys, right? I always chuckled when I would go to a concert in KCMO and someone onstage would say "HELLO KANSAS!" only to be answered with the somewhat disgusted "Missourah!" by all "them people" in attendance. Maybe they should petition to change the city's name to eliminate the confusion?)

The Lawrence forecast: mostly sunny and very hot, looking at a potential record high, followed by a warm night of patchy clouds. Chance of precipitation goes from 1% during the day to 15% overnight.
High of 103F (39.4 C) and an overnight low of 78F (25.6 C).

That is all for now.

Hope you have a GREAT day!

HE, I enjoyed your comments about the Chiefs and Royals situation. I have a couple of friends here in Colorado that think that the Chiefs are located in Kansas. I don't correct them.

If the Chiefs must have a new stadium, I hope it will be in Kansas. It would be nice for Kansas to have the Royals too.

I would not object at all to the Royals moving to Kansas.

Heck, maybe they can work out another shared space in the Legends area that would be the modern equivalent of the Truman Sports Complex.

They could call it the Eisenhower Sports Complex -- although in these times it would almost certainly have a corporate sponsorship name. But it should still be a Kansas based corporate sponsor.

The Powers That Be could approach potential sponsors headquartered in Kansas such as ...

• Black & Veatch - Overland Park HQ, a global engineering, procurement, consulting and construction company
• Cessna - Wichita HQ, but actually a Textron brand since 2014. Call it Textron Cessna Sports Complex! I love the Kansas aviation history tie-in! Fly High!
• Evergy - a fitting sponsor - the largest electric company in Kansas, dual HQs in Topeka and KCMO (KCP&L is a subsidiary), serving more than 1.7 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in Kansas and Missouri
• Garmin - Lenexa HQ, specializes in GPS technology for automotive, aviation, marine, outdoor, and sport activities.
• Hill's Pet Nutrition - HQ in Overland Park, with multinational markets (think Science Diet pet foods)
• Koch Industries - Wichita HQ, 2nd largest private USA corporation, Kansas' largest corporate employer with 120,000+ employees
• Netsmart - OP HQ, develops and sells health information technology, including for electronic health records and health information exchanges -- included because it is a growing firm in today's healthcare industry, but mostly because I like the name :)
• Seaboard - HQ in Merriam, a multinational agribusiness and transportation conglomerate, the only Fortune 500 company HQd in the state
• Spirit Aerosystems - HQ in Wichita, once part of Boeing, and potentially soon reintegrating with Boeing. Like Cessna, I love the ties to the state's aviation industry history B)

Heck, for that matter -- although it has HQ in Crystal City, VA instead of Kansas -- Boeing has a LONG history in Kansas that would be renewed with acquiring Spirit, so why NOT the huge, multinational conglomerate as the corporate sponsor?

As Superman* himself said, “Once you choose hope, everything is possible.” – Christopher Reeve

*Yet ANOTHER Kansas connection!
