✦ KU MEN'S HOOPS -
• Today continues an "evaluation" period (on campus recruiting allowed, plus staff can be off-campus evaluating -- e.g., attending games to watch recruits -- but no off-campus in-person recruiting contacts allowed). The next full "recruiting" period, where both on & off campus in-person contacts are allowed, begins SEP 4.
• With practice hours few and precious this time of year, getting the men time to get to know each other and gel quickly as a team is key. Here's a nice video and article from 247Sports.com's Michael Swain on the June 20 practice session.

• A bit of an aside -- For those who say "Yeah, but Cal puts guys in the NBA", there is this response: "I'm tired of the Cal puts guys in the NBA argument! What Cal does is get the best high school talent (routinely top 2 recruiting classes) because he is a master recruiter. He is an AVERAGE college BB coach, so he isn't putting anybody in the NBA that wasn't headed there anyway."

• Speaking of recruiting classes, 2025 Rivals 5* CG Darryn Peterson begins his official visit on Sunday June 23. Peterson and Rivals 5* PG Darius Acuff, Jr are the top two targets for Self & Co for 2025, and there has been talk that they would probably not want to play together as both want the ball in their hands. However, former Rivals and current 247Sports hoops recruiting guru Eric Bossi is saying he is hearing that would not be a problem for them. Who really knows but them? Bottom line is Peterson's visit may - or may not - but some pressure on Acuff to decide sooner. However, every where the commentary I'm coming across states take the first one to commit, and if the other commits as well you take them both. You make it work. • Leopold & Co picked up a 2025 wide receiver commitment yesterday from Jackson Cook of Snellville, GA. Still more to follow. This is a key area for the program this recruiting season, as the top WR turnover after 2024 will be complete. Expect at least 2 more, perhaps 3, recruits to be added before all is said and done.
