HAPPY FATHERS' DAY!
To all the Dad's out there, whether by blood or by choice,
THANK YOU
for everything you do to create, mold and develop your daughters and sons into good people we need for this world we share.
It is truly the greatest and most important role and responsibility an individual human being can accept.

and other dates of interest...
DAYS	DATE EVENT
74 Thu 2024-08-29	Days until KUFB 2024
110 Fri 2024-10-04	Days until LATE NIGHT in The PHOG!*
*Estimate based on first Friday in October. Official announcement expected in July 2024.

KU ATHLETICS

KU MEN'S HOOPS -
• Word is that Johnny Furphy has been invited to view the NBA draft from the "green room". That usually means the player is expected to go in the first round. To quote JayhawkSlant poster embalmer, "Went from obscure unknown Australian last minute add on KU bench player to possible top 20 lottery pick! The power, impact and opportunity KU and Bill Self can have on an individual is just mind blowing! I’m so happy for Furphy. Such a great kid. Just wish we could have had the chance to see him in a KU jersey one more year. Good luck buddy. Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!"

• More on newest KU MBB staffer (hired as an "analyst" per HCBS) and alum Chase Buford from KUAthletics.com:
- played three seasons at Kansas from 2007-08 to 2009-10 and saw action in 35 games, including 13 contests during KU’s 2007-08 national championship run.
- After KU:
□ Atlanta Hawks - NBA regional scout, then worked in the video department 2011-2015
□ Chicago Bulls - coordinator of player development 2015-2017
□ NBA G League Delaware Blue Coats - assistant coach 2017
□ NBA G League Delaware Blue Coats - assistant coach 2018
□ NBA G League Wisconsin Herd - head coach 2019-2020 (in first place in 2020 when season ended due to COVID-19)
□ Australia National Basketball League Sydney Kings, Sydney, New South Wales - head coach 2021-2023. Consecutive NBL titles 2022, 2023

Excellent breadth and depth of experience to indicate as a minimum a potential future assistant coach, and perhaps even future HC material when Self retires? Pedigree, experience & familiarity with the program are all in his favor. Clearly HCBS thinks highly of him.

KUFB -
• As reported yesterday, aTM transfer OL Bryce Foster is a Jayhawk, and will almost certainly be anchoring the offensive line at center this fall if he is truly as good as advertised. He arrives in Lawrence today. With him joining the existing OL corps and the further earlier addition of former 4* transfer OL Amir Herring from Michigan (committed 2024-05-02), KU looks really stacked 2 deep on the offensive line.
Tackle - Brown, Cabledue, Livingston, Herring
Guard - Baynes, Ford, Simmons, Gorczyca, Doiron
Center - Foster, Ford
Two Rivals Top 100 players in that group.

• Also of note in the high school recruiting 2025 realm, aTm just landed Rivals Top 100 4* tight end Kiotti Armstrong.
That is big news for KANSAS because it may impact the recruitment of Kansas 4* TE high school recruit Linkon Cure, who had recently been projected as leaning toward my Aggies. Will this, along with the prospect of being able to play with his older brother Leyton (a transfer from Fort Hays State who recently signed as a preferred walk-on at KU) get him to Lawrence? Cure followed K-State growing up, and much of the prognostications are that if not aTm (who reportedly is still going after at least two more TE for 2025), Cure will end up at that second place major Kansas college. Fingers crossed that Leipold, the staff and his brother can attract him to Mount Oread.

• One last KUFB 2025 recruiting bit - JayhawkSlant main man and football guru Jon Kirby predicted two defensive commitments to come from this weekend. Michigan City, Indiana recruit Adrian Holley (DE, Rivals 3*) announced his commitment this morning as I was preparing this post. Also expected to commit soon is Axtell, KS player Brandon Schmelzle, a Rivals 3* Athlete (safety or maybe eventually linebacker?). Anytime KU can keep a solid in-state prospect is a win for our Jayhawks!

The Lawrence forecast calls for a windy and hot, partly sunny day (once again it's very dark and overcast as I post this), followed by a breezy, clear and humid evening and night. Chance of precipitation goes from 1% during the day to 5% overnight.
High of 94F (34.4 C) and an overnight low of 72F (22.2 C).

That is all for now.

Hope you have a GREAT day!

ROCK CHALK!

✦ Fathers' Day Thoughts for the Day

"Any fool can have a child. That doesn’t make you a father. It’s the courage to raise a child that makes you a father."
— Barack Obama

"My father didn't tell me how to live; He lived, and let me watch him do it."
— Clarence Budington Kelland

"Good fathers do three things: they provide, they nurture, and they guide.
— Roland Warren

"It is not flesh and blood, but the heart which makes us fathers and sons.* "
— Friedrich von Schiller

"Every father should remember one day his son* will follow his example, not his advice."
— Charles F. Kettering

*daughter as well.
One day her father will become the standard against which she will judge all men.
A very sobering thought.
