"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain "Innocents Abroad"
This posting is NOT sponsored by McLain's Market, the favorite meeting place for the Lawrence RCB Koffee Klatch's 1st Saturday of the Month morning sessions... but hoshi, DocHawk, WheatState Gal and I can heartily recommend it for a cuppa and a nosh. - HE
How many days until LATE NIGHT in The PHOG! ?
and other dates of interest...*Estimate based on first Friday in October. Official announcement expected in July 2024.
WELCOME TO JUNE!
It seems these days that summer is "realignment" season, so expect some news to come on that, beyond that of the 4 Corners schools coming into the Big 12 next month as OUt leave.
It also means that this weekend our high school recruits and transfer student-athletes will show up to start summer school and preparations for Fall 2024!
KU MEN'S HOOPS -
No real hoops specific news this morning. Self & Co still have at least one scholarship (#12) they will almost certainly try to fill for next year (with #13 being the final penalty bill payer), so I'll be "keeping a weather eye out" for some news - both eyes, as often as I can spare them.
OTHER KU ATHLETICS NEWS -
• KUFB -
247sports.com - Swain: KU football incoming freshmen, transfers set to report to Lawrence
• KUVB - ? European Tour Leads Jayhawks to Italy
• KU AD - I have heard that Ohio State recently made a hard run at KU AD Travis Goff, who turned them down to accept his newly extended KU contract.
Well done, Chancellor Girod, well done... and
THANK YOU, Travis, for your loyalty to and faith in the future of KU Athletics.
ROCK CHALK, JAYHAWK!
ELSEWHERE -
Big 12 to distribute record $470 million amid realignment
MEANWHILE -
The late posting today is directly related to the four of us having a nice chat at McLain's this morning. Furphy and hoops about 5 minutes, KUFB for a few and KU Volleyball in Italy (both VB and Italy topics especially near and dear to hoshi) for a good bit. Discussion ranged from there to what we're doing (Wheaty house painting and other projects, hoshi going on a family journey to Saguaro National Park near Tucson to celebrate the life of a recently departed loved one, etc.), intricacies of retail pharmacy, pharmacy health insurance contracts, how pharmaceuticals work, where to get them and their costs, and even a small, sympathetic foray into how our relationships with our families and friends are being impacted by the current national political climate. All in all an excellent morning over coffee and breads/rolls of our choice for the four of us.
The weather today in Lawrence is projected to be pleasant and warmer with intervals of cloud and sun. Projected high of 82F (27.8 C), a low of 63F (17.2 C) and just a 25% chance of precipitation.
That is all for now.
Hope you have a GREAT day!
ROCK CHALK!
