"We thought we’d be ready to play, but it could have really gotten out of hand if we hadn’t turned the ball over so much. We had some unforced errors and missed some lay-ups, and they did, too. We really pressured them. It was a different kind of pressure because we decided to put Brandon on McKinney, so we didn’t get out and full-court pressure them or pick them up past half court. But we did a real good job in their half court sets. We let Gardner have a real good two minutes, but other than that we were good defensively. I thought Sasha’s post defense on Young was excellent. To get 41 rebounds, and your leading rebounder has seven, and to score 79 points, and we could have easily hung 90 today, and our leading scorer had 14 – that’s pretty good balance. So other than turnovers, it was a pretty good day for the Jayhawks.

"I think a lot of it (MU 15-minute stretch without a field goal in the second half) was good defense and a lot of it was they were just missing shots. But the great thing about it is when they missed, we cleaned up. Hawk played great the first half, coming in with nine points. C.J. was good off the bench. I thought everybody did some good things. It was a good win, and it was good to see everybody play.

(This was Self’s 400th game as a head coach) "I’ve had a lot of fun and had a lot of good players, and certainly this team has its fair share of those. But we’ve just got to keep playing and not be content. It’s nice to beat Missouri, but the locker room wasn’t ecstatic. It was like, ‘Okay, that’s what we’re supposed to do. We’ll be here at practice tomorrow.’ I love their attitude.

"Iowa State should have won that game at Oklahoma. They kind of had a meltdown a little bit like how our game finished at Missouri. And I was happy to see K-State win, especially with Jim’s condition. Just expect the unexpected. That’s the way the league is, and when you think somebody’s supposed to win, just watch out. We know we’ve got Baylor coming in here, and we can’t be looking ahead. We’ve got to focus in on the Bears."
