| "Even though the competition wasn’t as good, you know this team
lead Michigan State, and Maryland by 11 in the first half. I think they may
have been a little tired. But we jumped on them. We played good, and we
played relaxed. The first game we were really up tight, yesterday we were a
little up tight, and a lot of that is being nervous and anxious. We have a
lot of young players out there. But I think we’re getting more relaxed. In
a very painful way, we got better on this trip. We found out where we were
on the first day and we gained on it. Then we played a one-possession game
the second day, and made a lot of good plays to put us in that position.
Then today, though it wasn’t tough competition, we could have beaten a lot
of people today. I’m happy that we know more about our team. I wish we had
played Maryland today, regardless of what the outcome would be. But we didn’t. We can learn from this and grow from it, and we’ll keep getting better.
(C.J. Giles tied KU record by making nine consecutive shots, tied with Mark Randall) “Well, Randall shot a lot of one- and two-foot shots. C.J. made about six face-up jumpers from 18, 17, 12. He did a good job, but the whole team did. They didn’t have any size inside, and we took advantage of it, for the most part. We got a lot of guys a lot of minutes. It was good to see Micah get out there and make some shots, because he is a talented kid. He’s been hurt, but he looked pretty good. Matt did good at the end. Jeremy hit a big shot. Stephen did good. There were a lot of good things that happened today. But we still have to get to where we shoot the ball better, and we’ve got to quit turning the ball over so much. Even though we had 13 turnovers today, there wasn’t that much pressure, so you shouldn’t have that many turnovers. "We’ll have Thanksgiving dinner as a group in the morning. Then after that, they’ll have free time until we meet tomorrow night, so they’ll enjoy it from this point forward. "There were a lot of KU people out here. There had to be 300 people who didn’t get tickets. And with a game like today, I wouldn’t have been surprised if a lot of people didn’t show, but they were here. It’s a great, loyal following, and I know our players and staff really appreciate that." |
