| "They kicked us. That’s the worst we’ve been kicked since I’ve been here (and the worst for any KU team in four years). We got it to four playing miserably the first half, and then they get a second shot for a three to get it to seven. Then when we had to have poise to come out in the second half, we didn’t. They were a lot better than us today, there’s no ifs, ands, or buts. Their three best players were on a different level today. We’ve done some good things as far as team defense, but individually we were so bad defensively, and they got comfortable. They didn’t really run a lot of offense, they just got it to their players and they went and made plays. "They didn’t pressure us, we panicked. We just threw the ball to them. Of course, we’re going through that phase right now. We’ve got some individuals really taking poor care of the basketball. We couldn’t even catch the ball. And we slipped on the floor because there’s ice underneath it. But it amazes me, Villanova didn’t have any problems with it, so why did we? It was just an all-around poor performance by us. I coached bad, and we played bad. We’ve been kind of living on the razor’s edge the last couple of games. I hate that this happened, but a little humiliation may do us all good. "Sasha was the best player in the game (for KU) today. Wayne got off to a pretty good start. But gosh dang, we just turned it over so much, and we just let them set the tone. Very disappointing. But Sasha played well, I thought Hawk did some good things. He hasn’t had a chance to play much. Darnell got in there and battled hard. I didn’t play C.J. because he’s got a bad foot, and I didn’t want to set him back. If it had been a tight game and we had to have him, we might have played him, but there was no reason to today. "Unfortunately for us, when you get embarrassed like this there’s got to be some good come out of it. A wake-up call, attention getter. We put a band-aid on a lot of weaknesses that we’ve had. Ball handling, passing, shooting. We’ve done some things poorly, but we’ve been able to disguise it with defense and toughness and stuff. But today we didn’t have the defense and we didn’t have the toughness, so we were exposed. It’s not the end of the world by any means. It’s disappointing. But we were not going to run the table. As much as our goal is to win every game, we were not going to run the table, and they were just a lot better than us today |
